Cheer mate. Thanks for the info. Remember some cars came from factory with hid'd and no projectors before the law was changed ;). I'm not sure about modifying external lights rule as would that not make all aftermarket light clusters illegal too? I'll pop into an MOT station and ask the question at some point.
Missus 2002 cooper s has hids in non projector housing from factory.

I did the same as you and the us markers (dim glowing front indicators) on previous motor even tho I never got done and it passed mot. It's kinda a questionable would they wouldn't they.

I highly doubt you would get greif since it dosent overpower the fogs and they still work as they should

If they did question it You may get that copper that lives for giving any ticket possible then a talking too (no offence to any cops on here)

I think HIDs need a self-levelling mechanism of some sort and a washer for the lens of some sort, either jets or wipers with jets.

The mini does its from factory like that washers and it has a height sensor at the back end and the headlights got hid xenon or something like that engraved on the casing.

This current rr had led headlight bulbs and they was absolutely awful bright for 2ft in front of the motor extremely poor beam pattern I threw them in the bin before the lad had finished taking his personal bits out of the rr haha

Doesn't look bright but if the guy in the cop car behind you happens, by some odd chance to know the configuration of a RR back end, he might just give you a tug. I'd phone my local traffic boys if I was you to check. Your MoT station is only interested in whether or not the rear fog/s work. The legality of having the lens for the rear fog lit, on a public highway, is more one to ask your local traffic boys. Just phone 101 and ask to be put through to them for a bit of advice.
If nothing else it means anyone else ever doing the same will know the answer.

In the UK there should only be one rear fog lamp. Fitted anywhere from the rear centre line or towards the off side. It should only be illuminated in bad visibility conditions. The fog lamp at the nearside of the vehicles is for use on LHD vehicles abroad only and should be inactive on RHD vehicles on roads in this country.

I thought it was to do with vehicle size as small cars tend to have 1 and larger have 2. Both my Alfa and my BMW have 2 from factory and most cars I see have two. The RR certainly came with 2 bulbs fitted as well. Its never been queried on any MOT I've ever had with any of these cars either

So most cars are breaking the law then. Is that what you're saying wammers?

According to the 1989 vehicle lighting regulations that introduced their requirement, if they have one nearside and one off side that both light, yes. If they have two lamps but only the offside one is used, no. Unless there has been an update i am not aware of.

One is the minimum, it must be fitted to the centre or off-side of vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1980...

As far as I knew for fogs if only one illuminated it had to be the offside.

A centre fog light could be used where fitted

If a vehicle had a fog on each side that illuminated but the offside one was broken or blown then it's ticket time

And if they were built before 1st April 1980 ?

PART II Requirements relating to optional rear fog lamps
1. In the case of a motor vehicle first used before 1st April 1980 and any other vehicle manufactured before 1st October 1979, any number may be fitted and the only requirements prescribed by these Regulations in respect of any which are fitted are those specified in paragraphs 2(d), 7 and 10 of Part I.

2. In the case of a motor vehicle first used on or after 1st April 1980 and any other vehicle manufactured on or after 1st October 1979, not more than two may be fitted and the requirements prescribed by these Regulations in respect of any which are fitted are all those specified in this Schedule.

What P38 was built in 1980? In 1989 rear fog lamps became compulsory. The regulations require ONE to be fitted from the vehicle rear centre line or towards the O/S of the vehicle. Look at a trailer board for vehicles made in or after 1989 and look where the fog lamp is fitted. You can also get trailer boards for vehicles made before 1989 that do not have fog lamps fitted. According to lighting regulations only one needs to be fitted and MUST be fitted as described. The reason vehicles have light clusters with one each side is so they can be utilise for either RHD or LHD vehicles. If you have a working fog lamp fitted to the N/S of a vehicle made or used in Britain after 1989 it is illegal.

Read the regulations. Unless as said earlier there has been a regulation change since 1989. Only one is required and if used in the UK MUST be fitted as described. If you have a problem with that ask the people who make the laws. ;);)

Right finally in the case of Skoda Octavia (see picture) They have rear sidelights and fogs combined. The regs also say you can't have a fog on a breaking circuit but that is about it so mine are absolutely fine. Awesome. It also says after 1979 you can as many fogs as you want on the back of your car :)

Only one required then. So 2 is ok or have I read that wrong. Anyway, It's not me that's got the problem. It's the fiat group. And the vag group by the looks of it.

Two can be fitted to vehicles made before 1980. After that only one is fitted and MUST be fitted to the O/S of the vehicle centre line. If any working lamp fitted to a vehicle made after 1980 and most certainly after1989 is not fitted in that manner it is illegal. So technically if you have a working fog lamp fitted to the N/S of the rear vehicle centre line, on a vehicle made after the fitting and siting regulations were introduced, it is an MOT fail. Because it is not fitted to the O/S of the vehicle centre line as described in regulations.

Think you may have misread that slightly. If you substitute BEFORE 1979 for AFTER 1979 it may be more accurate.
