I have the same trouble, I would love to find someone to do the jobs for me, but I dont trust anyone. It may take me longer than it used to,and takes longer to recover,BUT!!!! at least I know its done right. When I did the front sensor, the PO had tied the brake flexi and the cable for the sensor with crossed cable ties. took me 1/2 an hour to make new brakets.

I use a local garage to do some jobs, like oil and filter changes, saves the hassle of disposing of the old oil but, they let me down shortly after I bought my P38 said they couldn't grease the props as their grease gun tip was too big, so I do that myself, at least they told me instead of letting me assume it had been done, they're also happy to let me supply parts and I've used them for MOT's for over 10 years, but I enjoy doing the work if I'm up to it and the end result is satisfying.

When you do the work yourself you tend to keep an eye on things more... when you're doing you'll see something and think, hmm that's not looking too great, something to do. It gives a better awareness of what jobs are coming up and what may need attention, or not. Depending on how meticulous you are.

NB. i got a compressor grease gun, compressor in hand, on my back shuffling underneath the RR to grease the propshafts and pulled the trigger by accident. a glob of grease shot accross the garage straight into the side of the Porsche, after having just cleaned it.

Yeh, those porches take some cleaning don't they. Thinking of pulling mine down and build an orangery in stead. Save the wasps nesting in the eaves.:D

Helping to clear a rural youth hostel in the Highlands. Up and down a 1/2 mile track from the single track "main road", variable terrain, mud, ruts, steps and the rest.

Really impressed where a 20 year old RR can go!

A rogue picture frame broke the tailgate glass though....

Insurance job and they are replacing it tomorrow apparently, don't see it somehow though. Any idea how much these cost? £465 in 2008? https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/replace-rear-tailgate-glass-on-a-p38.224234/

Happy days, great fun though! :-D

If you're getting it through insurance, it is only ~£80. I got the new windscreen for my Merc through insurance and they was willing to do it next day, but I couldn't get the vehicle free for them to do it. If they were £465 in 2008, double that value now. Seems to be the standard with P38 parts.

Removed the transmission sump, shot blasted the surface rust off, and painted the outside.

First impressions of POR 15 are good. Went on well and dried rock hard in a few hours. Will certainly consider for some of the general fabrication jobs where I tend to use Hammerite.

Airbag fault mysteriously appeared. Cleared fault (bulb open circuit) and it hasn't returned.
