Hadn't thought of it like that but yes thanks

Also found this from Michelin;
"Can you put tyres of different brands, treads, depths or seasons on the same axle"?

This is generally prohibited by law.

On the same axle, tyres should even be of the same model.
Shouldn't they be commercial rated Tyres also?

Asking for friend.. What's your views on mixing different compound tyres on same axle? Sounds bad to me.. but van contact eco and van contact camper on the front of a motorhome. The camper tyre is reinforced and has m+s and 3PMSF logo, the other is just a regular van tyre! Bought by mistake and fitted to the front/driven wheels
In France it would be a fail on the the CT (MOT equivalent) to have mismatched tyres on the same axle. Years ago you used to hear horror stories of people mixing cross-ply with radials.

sitting here 🤩

Commercial just have thicker side-walls to take the weight when fully laden. Not sure how heavy his van is but it'll be specified somewhere. Obviously the weight shifts to the outside on a turn so the tyres have to take 25% of the weight + another 10% or so.

Most çampers are 3.5t a limit, over here the ones I've dealt with all have the C rated tyres on them and are seen as a loaded van👍 considering that's what the chassis mostly is 🤔

The camper is quite lightweight, as they go. but, they are both van tyres but the camper tyres have extra reinforcement so they can deal with not being driven regularly.
The fitter was Halfords/tyres on the drive. They agreed to do a full refund with new (correct) tyre ordered. Win!

just got back from a bit over 9000 km trip around the high country and National parks in Victoria and New South Wales (Australia) in my Disco 3 . About 80% was on bitumin and the other 20 % on gravel roads and fire trails and a bit of beach driving . Was away for just over 6 weeks mostly camping in a tent and a few motels hen the weather was wet. Shredded one tyre on a rugged back road and got within 500km of home when a front wheel bearing was just about to callaspe luckily i was in a town with a repco dealer and he managed to get a spare hub assembly overnight so i fitted it in their carpark the next day.The day before Iwas in Lightning ridge (the black opal town ) and it was raining and the road i wanted to take was cut due to flooding (you may have heard that the out back of NSW and Qld has had the worst flood in history and will take months to recover ) so i had to take a 200km detour to get to where i wanted to and then had water across the road in places and 1 creek was about 2 ft deep but only about 20 yards wide.
I am now about to give it a full service and replace the 3 other wheel bearing and front rotas and pads all filters and fluid changes.
If i get a chance i will start a new thread with a more comprehesive itinery of the trip.
