Greetings Gang, Well, I have been off the grid for the past 2 years due to the unpleasantness that kicked off here in Crimea. So put the black beast onto the axel stands and exited stage left to sunnier climbs for a while. Any how I'm back now and tomorrow will go and see how the Beast has fared. So, fingers crossed and hopefully my usual practice of when I have been away before will have paid off and after a bit of fettling I will put the battery back on and give it a whirl. Longest time before this one was 14 months and all was good but it's a much older vehicle now. I will give an update tomorrow on how it goes and hopefully not have to be asking any stupid questions of Errr what do I do now but know that you will all be there to help out if needed. Also, I am looking forward to being back around the forum and the lovely banter.

I'd have thought still a bit risky for Westerners there?
 
Well after almost eight months of an oil-leak free engine, the familiar aroma of 'oil on hot exhaust' came back a few days ago...
When I bought the car (L405, SDV8), one of the first jobs was to replace the oil cooler which had been leaking for some time - the trader paid for the parts and my time, about three hours to do and another six to clean up the oil residue and replace the crossover pipe insulation.
I was hoping it'd be something relatively simple like the turbo oil feed pipe 'O' rings or the flexible hose on the same pipe that was leaking. No.
After removing lots of bits and getting torches, mirrors & an Endoscope into the Vee, it appears to be the metal seal between the block & the EGR cooler housing, that oil also passes through, the part is only about Β£8 but there's another five seals & gaskets that need to be changed, along with drain & refill of the coolant - and clean up the leakage, still, it's only a couple of weeks worth, last time it'd been leaking long enough to soften the rubbers on the LH engine mount and the front differential insulator!

Wow, sounds like the 3.0d v6 Mercedes oring crap all over again... Bonne courage mate.
Get us some pictures for the peeps. We love to see suffering, sorry Errr. Pictures 😁
