Well the mrs wanted to see if we could see the northen lights anywhere so went for a little jolly.
I forgot about this ones ability to freeze the screenwash bottle 🙄 then i remembered it was -7°
Also got mot booked for monday knowing full well if it doesn't pass il have to buy a cheep dinger to get me by untill work calms down a bit again

Also its really odd seeing the back seats without the dogs big red blanket covering them or the blankets on the front seats,

Pity you're not closer, I could have lent you my spare car for a week or two if you were stuck

Actually drove mine finally.
Still not out of the woods health wise but was sick of seeing it laid up at the unit.
It's been outside now in all weather and touch wood appears dry inside now.
New winter tyres on Tuesday then I'll get the alignment checked.
Seems to drive really well. A number of random bongs and hdc/transmission/abs/eas faults but all cleared when stopped and started again then on last journey home was fine so I'm guessing that although it span over really quick, I suspect the battery isn't in great nick. I'll monitor and see how it goes.
First short run down the motorway though and I remembered why I bough another. Sublime.
By the way @kermit_rr you have a challenger, in about 20 miles of driving today from full reset I'm currently showing 9.5mpg, hopefully that will improve! 😂😂

That doesn't make me happy, I fitted Dunlops to my project car about 4 years ago.:(
I'm hoping it's because she doesn't have an easy life, pulling cars and off-road driving.
I did consider the gen 2 Arnotts but the price of 230€ a corner was a bit off putting considering the dunlops are less money even if changed every 5yr as opposed to every ten or so. That is on an everyday driver. 🤔

I was so lucky to get my Arnott's on promo at not much more than Dunlop's over 13 years ago and they still look like new. No off road though but quite a bit of towing.

How on Earth did you get it so clean? 🤔

So, what did we learn today about the new (to me) ride.
1. For a north of 140k 15yr old car she does drive remarkably well. Even the wife remarked how quiet it is and her daily is an electric car!
2. It still smells from being wet. (is dry now but I think the carpets need some shampooing to freshen them up a bit)
3. An ikea 190cm lack shelf will only just fit from back of drivers seat to tailgate so 1.9m is about your max length of payload.
4. The rear wiper does half a sweep then sticks.
5. The head unit may not be dead after all. It sprang into life briefly today a couple of times so I think I will check out the audio module behind the glove box first as this commands power to the head unit and that was the side that was wet through.
If I don't have to take out the dash that is a huge bonus.
6. The gearbox fault the previous owner told me about doesn't seem to happen. Gearbox works fine (caveat to that shortly)
7. All 4 heated seats work perfectly as does the heated steering wheel. However, only one side of the heated front screen works.
8. Throws up random eas/hdc/transmission/park brake faults on most journeys. Yesterday I thought it was maybe a weak battery but once today when it did it it was showing an implausible reading from brake switch.
Checked and brake lights don't come on until after noticeable braking effect is felt and every time I got the 5 bongs today was when applying or coming off the brakes. I think a new brake switch is a worthwhile investment.
9. Also sometimes throws the eml on but no limp mode. Seems to be an egr sensor issue so needs looking at.
10. Think the suspension needs calibrating. It does seem to wallow on right hand turns slightly more than left hand and the deadings seem diagonally out if that makes sense.
11. After 50 miles of mixed driving the mpg has climbed to 17 now and still going up so hopefully we will get into the 20's soon

Overall, lots to do but still think I've got a reasonably good motor for the price.
Just can't decide which to tackle first.
I think brake switch and rear wiper are most important.
Wish me luck!
