Looks pretty clean in there, one bank more than the other must of had some work done on that side.
now while its apart hows about a hot cam

I did consider a good hot cam for it, however I need the old bus together as soon as possible..
And procrastination has set in big time already so no more delays

if was going to do that i would get a second engine and spend the time and money on it then when its ready just drop it in, and you have a known lump as a spare

I put a better cam in mine not long ago.. that'll teach me! Rather expensive per mile when you work it out

Just put the battery on charge

it's been a couple of weeks and is down to 12.2! No obvious battery drain

The BECM draws at least 30ma 24/7 when the car is parked, plus the EAS wakes up every 6 hours or so drawing more power.

Might be wrong but I though Buick gave up with ally and went back to cast iron?

They gave up on the engine yes, because they couldn't do what they wanted with it, but non of their engines had issues because they didn't press the liners in

Not so much the issue of the liners having been pressed in,

The Rover V8's flaw is the water jackets which due to very poor tooling is offset in the block and as such if the engine is cooked the thin wall of the jacket cracks and the liner slips..

Often you can see how poor the tooling was, for example some of the follower bores have a machining marks above them, while others don't..

I actually think You will find (haven’t checked) but the 3.9 & 4.0 is one and the same, the 4.6 is the same but stroked
