Attempted last week with easy start and some fuel down the carb too, it was backfiring so I re-timed it (180 out) fired up, not tried with it this week though as I was trying not to make it need it

Span the dizzy round (shouldn't have done) to make the TDC point to number one but made sure that I didn't mess with the timing as I removed the spark plug and cranked it until it was on compression stroke, i.e. thumb over hole and air forced out

Will retrace my steps tomorrow though

Still thinking weak spark as its yellow and slow

Worth it when its running right though!

Thankfully I'm on a motorsport course so I'll be asking the technician if he's got any spare dizzy's or anything useful that I might be able to pilfer along with ideas on how to get the bastid started up!

Don't believe its not wanting to now after a week  sounded great when it did too. I might just rip it out and dump in a 2.25 or whatever engine I can lay my paws on but we'll see, going to add another earth to the block direct to chassis as its already earthed out to the bulkhead and the starters earthed out to the chassis but will put an engine to chassis too

It's gotta be summat that you've over looked if it's already run previously? Personally I'd check all earth's 1st....

Ran last week but needed the choke fully open before it ran out of fuel, sparks definitely weak though and timing might be out again so will attempt to re-time tomorrow if I can if not I'll leave that until next time and touch up any small jobs like crusty paint

Will attempt to re-trace steps though and make sure I've covered my bases;

Fuel entering carbs but they were completely ****ed up with grime so I've cleaned them out and replaced the diaphragms and gaskets. Will refit tomorrow

Power, ignition coil is feeding power coil and thats sparking to the block nicely, rotor arm looks a bit battered but still providing a spark to the dizzy leads and sparking to the block but the spark from dizzy is far weaker than the one to it is and I mean a lot weaker. It looks lazy if thats possible

Air, carbs propped open so air was definitely getting in

Earths, all there but will add another as it cant hurt

You are going through the main reason's why I opted for a TDi, despite my longing for a V8. Despite my reading up on V8's, they do seem quite problematic if not cared for.

Yeah I know haha, the only thing that made me buy another V8 was the fact that I love the noise when they're running right

I'll get it going eventually or if worse case I'll replace the engine, I'm thinking V8 diesel from a GM as theres a few on ebay atm mated up to fender boxes

Keep It Simple Stupid :p

I've got mine wired up right :p it just wont start

I want a 200tdi now :(

You think you got problems....

In the workshop next to mine they had some old Ferarri in with a V12, running rough.

The bloke was staring at it with a glazed expression and said 'How the fook am I meant to balence 6 ancient webers.....?':D

The plan is to drain the water from drivers side driving/fog lamp, its 3/4 full at present. I did think of keeping a goldfish in it :D
