Had a lovely afternoon around a few local lanes. Cant believe how dry the land and fords were though.

Thanks to Zip, Beaver and Westwood8055, and to John for fixing the gearbox thing. I managed to break my interior light trying to change into low box with the crowbar earlier :eek: Other than that an uneventful day :D:D:D

:D

I'm off to poke it in about half an hour

poked it.

initial symptoms from phil, somewhere down south-
had developed an erratic idle and misfire.
exiting a rounabout, a 10 second surge of uncontrolled revs.
died of its own accord.
ejected a quantity of engine oil onto engine.
recovered locally to a safer environment.
rocker shaft still operates, turns over lumpy, tries to fire. didn't push it any further.

following recovery to workshop, and discussions en route,
possibility of blown piston, cracked head, badly seating valve.

found today-
heater plugs removed, number 1 been badly seated, came out eventually.
cylinder 1 pressure 9 bar
cylinder 2 pressure 9 bar
cylinder 3 pressure 9 bar
cylinder 4 pressure 4 bar
measured at heater plug holes.
rocker cover removed.
number 4 and 5 rocker locknuts loose at top of threads.
number 8 valve adjuster bent.
number 8 pushrod bent.
number 5 pushrod bent.
number 4,5 and 8 valve stem caps found in rocker gallery.

flywheel timing set at tdc, injector pump timing correct to timing tool.
bent bits replaced with good used stock.
valve gaps set on rockers.
number 1 glowplug hole cleaned out, engine turned over.
plugs replaced.
engine turned over with rocker cover off, vapour from number 8 pushrod hole. fires lumpy.
head removed, gasket blown between cylinder 4 and number 8 pushrod.
dink in number 4 piston where exhaust valve has contacted.
possible issue with valve spring cap and collets on number 8. didn't notice earlier.
removed valve, doesn't appear bent at moment.
left at that for the day cos phil had to go to work, and I wanted me tea.

stat housing to remove off head, head to degrease and send off for a pressure test and skim if needed.
look closer at number 8 valve. need to replace spring and collets.
intention to also remove cam belt front cover check timing to cam, and replace belt while in there.
unfortunately no pics.

Sorry it's our four day coast to Coast that weekend. It has it's own thread

Had a quick look underneath, seem to also have oil leaks on transfer box & gearbox as well as the rear prop/diff oh and a hole in the front section of exhaust, looks like been there a while to be fair though! And went out to a flat tyre! So much for me saying minimal damage lol
