well i was drying my landy out a week ago and came across a number of holes in my N/S Footwell - anyway there is one to the left about 80mm high and 20mm wide which is in the lower part which dips down on the footwell. as well as the same size at the bottom and also a 50pence peice hole in the centre.

I have looked around etc. but am wondering a couple of things on what to do. Do i

A: Make a panel for each whole knock the rust off and weld in
or
B: GO and buy a new N/S repair footwell panel and put it in over the top?

What do you reckon guys

Clean the rust off each hole and weld scraps in to cover. No point in buying anything unless it's a right mess .. just small holes are quite easy, especially if the area is flat .. ;)

would be best to cut it out what you can .then put some weld thru primer on it b4 you weld it up to stop any more rusting depending on the welding skills some people just cover it up plate over the top which is fine for mot b4 you stonchip the plate put some primer to seal it

Next question then anyone recommend a place i can buy some sheet metal to make plates out of or are there places i can get plate for landrovers in sizes? My dads a good welder and im learning so its not a problem to get the job done. THanks for the tip enduro though - much appriciated. I have read the holes & footwell mean MOT fail! So i have till jan to get them done

You are a fair trek away from us in bedfordshire. We have a metal, steel sheet wholesaler here in Dunstable. He supplies my son with offcuts and is really cool and charges him peanuts but has sheets innormal 8 by 10 or 6 by four sheets.

I reccommend him but then I would cos he treats my kid well...

Ask Hamsterberg, hes a welder and in Essex :)

Footwells SHOULD be a mot fail....they're an integral part of the bulkhed.

For patching pieces i go to a local metal fabricators....they let me rummage in their skip and an offer of a few beer tokens is turned down as often as not.

GB done ?

Almost....stripped and cleaned starter and rebuilt handbrake as well. Gearbox is back in just need to do seatbox and floor  Might have done myself a bit of a mischief lifting the box back in the cab though.......time to get my own crane I think.
