Evening all - Td5 is parked where its always parker in the front garden, on rare occasions of a morning the fob wont open the car so i unlock it with the key itself, then its fine, now just now - the fob wont work at all, the light flashes though, when i unlock the car with the actual key and open the door the alarm siren is activated - Inserting the key in the ignition at this stage and trying to start does nothing, my old d2 v8 used to de-activate the alarm and start the car when doing this but not this bastard - Waiting for the alarm to go off (siren stopping) and then inserting the key into the barrel immediately sets the alarm off, this is without turning the key - so back out of the car, lock the doors with the key - alarm de-activates and its quiet - It was then i realised what i had done, i used the key to remove the batterys out of my daughters damn remote control mini - I dont know whether i have killed the key or what - Its the only key i have and i have no EKA code - Please help me, Im going crazy with this truck and its on ebay aswell due to be sold -

If you say the fob is not openning the door lock then I would think the problem is not the key but the fob or the Alarm control unit. How about trying to resync a new fob?

There no electrical connection between the blade and the fob/handle so using the blade as a tool to remove the batteries won't do any harm. The first thing is replace the battery from the fob, the fobs lamp may light but there's not enough current to transmitt, also the receiver has been known to give problems.

The correct procudure if locked with the key is unlock with the fob turning the ignition will only set the alarm off due to the voltage drop sence. Why you could do that with your old D2 V8 who knows. I might try it one day.

When you try to unlock the car with the fob, do you get any signs FROM THE CAR, NOT THE FOB, that the unlock signal has been recieved?

For instance, do any of the indicators on the car flash?

I had a similar-sounding problem with my D2 a few weeks ago - I would try to unlock with the fob but nothing happened. Eventually resolved itself but the problem was almost certainly caused by rain water leaking in the rear sunroof and affecting the operation of the central locking fob radio reciever, mounted on the roof just in front of the rear sunroof - between the headlining and the roof itself.

Get into the car, locate this small electronic box and take into the house to dry. Then re-assemble and try again.

I had a similar problem on my car where the key plip stopped working on my drive. I think it was due to interference from something else, as the car was fine round the corner and everywhere else. If I held the key up high, in line with the roof the plip worked a bit better. The issue went away after a week or so.

Cheers, Andy

I have a similar problem also, but weird but here goes;
If I lock (with the remote) the D2 in the evening when I arrive home and if I head out in the morning AFTER MORE THAN 10 hrs, the fob / remote does nothing and I have to open it with the key, but it starts no problem. If it is less than about 10 hrs, it opens ok with the fob / remote.

Now the operation when using the key is the same as the programming for the fob, ie only the drivers door unlocks with the first turn of the key / press of the fob and then the other doors unlock with the second turn of key / press of fob.

It is like the system has gone to sleep - has been like that since I got her three years ago and it has never failed to start nor has the alarm sounded during this process. Any thoughts?

The system does sleep but I thought the period it was longer then 10 hours befor doing it something like 36 but the info is in your owners handbook and to wake the system up it is unlocking with the key first.
But like a lot of electronic componants they loose there true value after a while remember the system is powered 24.7.

I replaced the battery in the fob today, still nothing, been at every angle outside the car, nothing between the fob and the car no indicators, nothing - The sunroofs dont leak, it hasnt rained for a while here neither -

when i lock the car with the key the indicators flash, when i unlock it the red light still flashes on the clocks, open the door and all hell breaks loose, when this happened on my v8 d2 i could put the key in the ignition turn ignition on and it would dis-arm the alarm and immobiliser,- this td5 doesnt do that, i have to get out close the door and lock it again to stop the alarm, im off to the dealer to get the eka code in the next day or so, see if i can get anywhere - thanks for replys lads.

If the eka fails, i'll pull the roof lining box and check it out.

I think the reason it worked on the other d2 you had was because putting the key in the ignition and turning it tells the key to transmit again. This is because the imobiliser kicks in if you font start the car within 30 seconds or so of unlocking the door.

My guess is as your key is not working then the asking it to re transmit also is not working.

It could have lost sync or it could be the RF receiver or the key could be knackered. The receiver is behind the front sun roof. Try holding the key there and see if it will work. If it does then it could be an indication of interference. I had that once, rolled the car a few foot down the road and all worked fine. Never had that problem again even in the same location!

Thanks for that mate ^^ i'll move the car and try it, However, been to land rover and got the eka code, entered the code etc.. dis-armed the immobiliser and started the car, happy days ? NO.. I turned the car off, closed the door, locked it with the key, not the fob, unlocked it again and opened the door, geuss what, back to square one, im waiting for the 5 minutes to elapse now to reset it again, why would it do this if the fob is dead, i thought thats the immobilser off for good now - any ideas fellas, thanks alot.

It's the immobiliser re-arming itself when you lock the door.

The fob controls the immo and the alarm, with the key it's just the immo I believe.

The bottom line is your fob is not talking to the car systems, this is most likely caused by a faulty fob radio reciever and is likely to remain faulty til it is replaced. If the fob battery is now good and you still don't get any reaction from the car when you use the fob it's be the radio reciever that's taken a walk.

Incidently on Disco 2 you shouldn't need to re-sync the fob after a battery change.

Ive pulled the headlining out the reciever is bone dry, had the key open, all dry (checked just in case) something else just happened though, entered the eka code, got it running, removed the key, waited 20 or so seconds and turned ignition on, nothing whatsoever - Im going to move the car now and try it, if no joy, i'll go down to the indy garage and see what they say, cheers matey.

Your immobiliser is 'idiot proof'. i.e. it self sets within 30 seconds of being turned off as required by law on all cars approx 1996 onwards.:doh::doh:

I've realised that now, i thought the eka code turned the immobiliser off for good until the fob armed it again, So its a 5 minute wait every time i want to start the car - Going back the indy tomorrow, they will try and code the key £30 they quoted me, i asked them what if the key cant be coded ? They said more than likely it will code but if it doesnt we'll cross that bridge when we come to it - I wont be ripped off, not a chance, what am i looking at if the bastard cant be coded? Many thanks for the help fellas. At least the trucks up and running anyway -

Key recoded £30 - Keeping it away from any electric devices from now on ! All sorted !

Just for reference, the key is never recoded, it has a fixed code (well a rolling code, fixed key for the rolling algorithm). The cars BCU is what is programmed to the key.

3 weeks ago, after 2 days not using the car, I could not open the doors with the remote. Only after pressing serveral times really close it would work. Changed key battery. Seemed to improve for a while, but a week later again same problem.
Last week, I could not start the car. My car´s battery was dead after the first attempt. Changed battery "et voilà" the key works fine !!

I wonder if the key reluctancy to open is pointing to the car´s battery, and no code is involved in the problem. Just wondering... it is worth checking main battery?
