My ABS light has been on for ages, I replaced the blown ABS fuse in the engine department as it had blown. Haven't had the light cleared as I believe it needs cleared through Hawkeye or similar? Anyway, yesterday as I feathered the brake approaching the end of the road & got 'gritty' feeling brake pedal & light went out. Look at that I said to my wife, lights went out. About 200 yards later I slowed down for traffic lights and got horrible grating noise & same gritty feeling brakes & light's back on? Brake pedal normal again, brakes quickly & in a straight line.

Any guesses?

Nope, I know what ABS feels like, and anyway I was only doing about 15mph. It felt like metal on gravel. When the ABS light stayed on again the brakes went back to normal.

My track car is doing the same lately!! I think it might be a leaky hose, not a brake hose but possibly a vacuum or something? Maybe

I know you know what ABS feels like but an overeager ABS pump can cause a feeling that differs slightly to normal ABS feel... What model LR have you got? Is it doing it all the time? If so remove the ABS fuse again and see if it goes....

It's like you put your brakes on as normal, the abs feels like its pulsing, but with a bag of sand between the disc and pad! With no pedal feels, but you lift off and reapply and they are fine,

Forgive me for butting in op! But yours sounds the same as mine

Granted a different car but same issue

If it was the pump would it not be like that all the time. I jumped on the brakes after this ( industrial estate) and it braked fine, straight & quickly.

Does yours happen on a bumpy part of the road? That's when mine tends to happen, I can brake from 130 to 20 all day at a trackday nice and smooth! ! but then there's a bit of rough road at 20 while braking and it does it
