Hi all,
Before you start hitting the search smiley my question is just to find out if anyone has used this fella for chassis treatment?

Waxoyl Rustproofing Treatment

He is very local to me and price is £440 plus VAT to include full cavity treatment. It's something I need doing but just don't have the time to do this myself.
I've spoken to him on the phone (Paul Grundy) and he sounds like a top bloke, well spoken and knows what he's talking about.
Ta :)

bit pricey but cheap compared to before and after.

if you go offroading the wayoil seems to wash off when you pressure wash the underside after.

I went for stone chip over epoxy to avoid this.

Cheers Fett ... I found three and they all seem about the same price. This fella will actually pick up from home and bring back two days later. He's insured for £200k and has a base in Leamington. I think the cavities are the most important but I would keep on top of it once done with a tin of Waxoyl and a brush. Just hope the chassis is good enough for the initial pressure wash!

Waxoyl is £23 for a 5 litre tin. How many tins are used on a landy  .
£400 seems a huge profit margin, never mind the vat on top .

I know but it is nearly a days work done properly ... pressure wash, wire brushing, cavity treatment etc. I guess you also pay for the ramp and facilities. I may try it myself but time and space is the problem. I wont be going to the trouble that Station House has but feel like I should do something this summer.

Just remember if you waxoil. Waxoil is very flammible and can cause problems if welding later on. It must be removed first...white sprit removes it I think.

Having done this, can well understand why you might pay someone - seriously messy!

Yes the materials are cheap - especially if you already have a schutz gun and compressor. If you're just looking to cost inside and out, wire brushing (hand or drill) and degreasing first, I'd say about 5 hours labour.

If you fancy the 3 part POR15 or KBS system on the outside, I'd double that.

For interest decided to use Ankor Wax inside the chassis rather than Waxoyl - the former apparently repems moisture whereas Waxoyl can trap it.

Living in Scotland the challenge of getting everything really dry was just too much!

Cheers SH ... I think I will do it myself ... got a week off in July so will hope to do it then as well as paint her too ... NATO paint in grey satin I think.
Having read about your experience I don't think I'll be doing anything as extensive so will probably use Waxoyl ... I have a hand spray gun so that should do the trick. Anyway, Steering drop arm using Busters guide this Sunday to get through first

The drop arm is a nice easy job:D
Hope yer not using a cheepy joint cause the rubber will be fekked in 6 months:mad:
Gotta do mine again! :rolleyes::lol:

Perhaps not fir your job but Waxoyls own aerosol cans are pretty good easy to use and give good coverage - not the cheapest but the least messy - use a can and throw it away - nothing to clean

I may look into that fella ... it'll preserve my spray gun for cleaner things :)

Will check out the price difference for 5 ltrs.

It's very deceiving the cans are small but go a long way. I have used a few - I warm them up first by standing them in warm water for half an hour makes the wax liquid and so not too thick going on.

Try one can and see what you cover.

I bought this one but it doesn't have a make on it so not too sure:

Land Rover Defender Steering Drop Arm RHD QFW000020 | eBay UK mate ...

Was the smiley face after 'easy job' a sarcastic one by any chance? :p

Got a ball joint splitter but hoping it's not too badly seized

Will let you know on Sunday evening.

Have a look at the Ankor Wax Andy - applies the same as Waxoyl, but IMO reads more appropriate for a Landy

Used Waxoyl for many years, so rare for me to depart!

Made by Morris Lubricants (they have a website) and struck me as a more 'industrial' solution

Whatever you choose - and it is personal choice - must be better than nothing!

Ps - really pleased with the KBS chassis paint system - can't scratcch it with a screwdriver, and still some on my arms 3 weeks on:D

PPS - the gun lazydog linked to is one of the ones I use - I also have another one with disposable heads which is easier to clean - can pm you a link if required

Hi fella ... thanks for all this, I'll take a look at the Ankor wax too, assuming you did your research before hand so must be good stuff. Not sure if I'll go the whole hog with the chassis paint too but it can only be the same as a spray tan eh? ;)
A link to the disposable head gun would be good when you get time, otherwise I'll go for the one lazydog suggested.
All the best mate ... thanks for your time once again, much appreciated :):)

For me the key ankor wax benefits were:

1) Not critical to ensure inside box sections are bone dry (don't know how you ever would know!)

2) Waxoyl is a pain to spray - you need to dilute it with white spirit AND warm it up - the ankor wax is pretty liquid at 13 degrees

Was finishing off this morning - needed to tip some old waxoyl out of a schutz can - had to add white spirit and stand in sink of hot water for 10 mins before it would pour out! Ankor wax just flowed through a funnel into an empty can.

Not telling you what to do Pal - just sharing an alternative I found but hadn't heard of before LZ!

Whilst they sell direct, when searching i found it slightly cheaper (allowing for postage) from:

TFM

Good luck!
