This ok?

Water Pump 2.5 TD BMW STC2192G STC3342G Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.

Or is it a cheap plastic one? I've heard the Britpart ones are no good, but this is a KS? one. Never heard of them, but Island are half decent, so ok or rubbish?

tnx!

Says Metal impeller OEM made in germany, you could of course try and find one with embedded diamonds if you like to pay more:D

The original is plastic yes. It lasts about 80000 miles. The issue is that it shatters and sends little bits of plastic through the whole cooling system.. I don't know if the metal ones do fail or not..
So I guess it depends on how long you think you'll keep the P38 running as to which you get :p

Never skimp expense on best parts for cooling system, you know what happens if it fails

99MY on has a third sensor in the head that brings on the aircon fans when an engine overheat occurs:)

Now I don't like the way you phrased that. You've got me worried :) Does that mean I've had a potentially damaging overheat or did you just mean as it gets hot to prevent a damaging over heat???

Yes:eek: The sensor temperature is a fair way above normal running temperature. Of course if the aircon was on that may also have triggered the fans.:)

The aircon wasn't on. It's happened twice. Once after a short run, the aircon fans came on and came on again the very next time I started the car (10 mins later). I thought that was odd as it wouldn't have had time to get hot.

The other time was when I was towing. I could hear the aircon fans kick in and out on the journey.

What symptoms should I be looking for? Not noticed any loss of coolant. Since my rad split, I had a drop in coolant once. It was static for days and then suddenly dropped an inch in the reservoir. I topped up and its been static since. I assumed an air lock.

Any preventative maintenance to do? Get a new head gasket? What can I check?

tnx

You could install Data's AC mod so the fans run before a potentially damaging overheat :)
Did you notice your temp gauge going excessively high when the fans came on?

No, normal 12 o'clock position and when they kicked in, the temp dropped to about 11 o'clock
You sure the aircon is off? If the fans are kicking in with with the aircon is off (light on) and the gauge is at normal temperature, it could be a dodgy sensor, an air lock or a number of other things.
