i have been obsessing over this for quite some time as it seems to have no floors and nothing but gains. id like to know if anybody in this forum has any knowledge or experiance with it . i have asked in corsa and astra forums before as they have been my previous and current car lol,

it is a device id like to fit to my landy while i buikd her , ill be dropping a 300 tdi in it , and itll most likely be a second hand and reconed by my own fair hand.

a friend has told me that they are no good for old engines as it cleans them out tooo much and the little carbon build up has over time become part of the tolerance within the engine block.

if ive dug up an old conversation then forgive me im new :)

ive heard of it on ww2 fighter planes and subarus and skylines but not diesel landys as yet

i don't know if the gains would make it a worth the hassle to install it on a diesel land rover engine. methanol not the cheapest of fuels to buy and you can normally only buy it by the drum. All it really does is make the intake air cooler and more dense which is meant to improve performance slightly. To be honest i think you would be better putting your money into a better inter-cooler or changing a lot of the rubber inter-cooler hoses for metal versions to make slightly more response.
Thats just my 2cents worth anyway

Maybe check with forum member Fur Trapper as i think i remember him saying some of the big yank vehicles are running water injection

you may wish to look into insurance costs first. If not decared it will invalidate your insurance and if it is declared it can put your insuarnce at £6000 or higher.

wow i never expacted that insurance could rise so high with it, ill def check that out thanks.

i know methanol is rather pricey, but i have seen many different mixes. it is said to have a drastic improvement over any intercooler. i know is a simple device and quite easy to fit myself, the science makes sense.

ill keep learning about it , perhaps ill become a memeber on one of the methanol forums. and i have seen lots on rams and rangers with it fitted. i spose the bonusa is that you will have a constant density , whereas with an intercooler you need to be moving for air to pass over it.

thanks for the comments guys, it seems that its still a lil out of reach as yet

I know of a vehicle getting pulled over by the police and on their inspection it was found to have water/methanol injection. It wasn't declared on the insurance and the vehicle was seized. The insurance quotes they were getting were around the £6k mark. I dunno what the final price was but I think they finally got it back.

oh dear i would def declare all mods, but my car would be put in the kit car catagory as it will be hand built completely . so everything i build onto it would be standard build lol . well i hope thats the way it works lol

what about propane injection? if your real clever you could set it up on a solenoid system so that it only comes into play from 3/4 throttle and up.

not so sure id like to carry propane aboard lol, i like the water injection as it gives gains for free really , i just gotta get distilled water which is cheap ! lol i been reading about it and it cn be run without methonol, and still be more efficiant than an intercooler

If you want info on this go look at sites in the USA as Pulling tractors and drag race 4x4's use this in 4x4 truck the diesels have 300-350 stock Hp and they do various thing and are getting 1200hp out of them so just google and you will find. There are also several hot rod 4x4 diesel magazines that have this info have fun. but how well will head bolts hold in the aluminum block that is your weak spot. With bolts on stuff you should be able to get 185hp out of your 300tdi and be far cheaper to do

one of my friends had a transit diesel with a nitrous oxide injection running straight into the air flow anfd that was doing the 1/4 mile in 10 seconds , when i asked him about it he said nos in a petrol is used to add to the fuel and makes it more flammable but in a diesel its to cool the air intake to -10 or colder , he messed around with loads of different gasses and said alot of them will improve a diesel as long as the air is freezing cold when it enters the engine ...so what about useing a cars a/c to cool the air intake ? would that not improve performance?

the air con would introduce cold air into the intake ,but i dont think it would be as cold as the air passed through an intercooler. the water is sprayed into such a minute mist that it drops the temperature drastically, methonol drops it futher and i imagine that nos would drop it much lower than both . your friend has found a nische as he knows that the way to make diesel burn better is to increase the density of the air mass, if you find any way of make the air denser/cooler, then you will improve lots of things.

your a/c idea would easy be tested in a land rover, simple case of getting a pipe. but the mechanical problem is that a turbo turns much faster than te engine, and it is the engine that turns the a/c. so i imagine that it wont live long.

unlees ofcourse you removed the fan from the system. so redirect before the fanand after the outlet . that would pump cold air into the intake, but as i say i dont know what the temperature of an intercooler rates at . so couldnt tell you if it would be worth it

thanks i am seaching sites and have found that its very popular in USA , so much so that a decent supplier seems to be from america only lol. though ill keep looking at how to build it

A/C draws a fair bit of power from the engine

I think with the airflow into the engine required the a/c would not keep up, not reducing the temp by much and still taking power from the engine

it was just a thought with the a/c ..im not that clued up with engines tbh ...i can service them and exchange parts but when it comes to intercoolers and turbos im lost :)

I know this is a old post but i had to comment.

You guys just dont understand the benifit of water meth injection.

The Meth is mainly for completing the diesel burn. The water is for cooling cleaning and to keep the meth from being flammable.

The result is fewer emissions more power, cooler egts and better Economy.

the gains are the best doller per pound you can spend....!!!!!

they put these even on small jetta diesels and even then big gains are seen.

also dont worry about insurance alot of kits run using your washer bottle as the tank. Since the main ingredients used in washer fluid in the USA is water and meth. It is not flammable when mix <50%..

also ive heard no complaints of using dyed fluid in the injection systems.
