hi, every one, ive just bought a 96 range rover, and ive got water, comeing in driping onto the pasenger side floor mat, behind the glove box, can any help, with any ideas, also it does not take the low gears, when i press the button in the dash, nothing happens, any ideas, thanks, as ive just got this, its a learning curve,

I've just had the same problem (water leaking) myself. Plenty of other responses will give you other suggestions as well, many suggesting a fault with the heater matrix 'o' rings, but this is not necessarily the case.

My leak was coming from rainwater that found its way in through the air intake at the base of the screen after the original mesh had perished. At either side of the base of the screen are changeable pollen filters, once these get clogged and soaked, water just passes through, particularly after heavy rain, and pools in the plastic ducts that feed air into the left hand blower motor.

The solution (if that is the problem) is to order and replace the mesh (see rangerovers.net) for step by step, or to use alternatives such as cut foam (as I did), wedged into the gap behind the plastic intake cover. Search the posts here for more details and possible causes.

As far as the 'gears' problem - what button, what model is your car and where are you -all these details will help people respond in a more constructive manner.

Cheers

Welcome to the brotherhood.
Button on the dash? As far as I can remember there's nothing on the dash to do with gears...
Low range is selected by moving the gear lever to the left (you must keep your foot on the brake)
Mine drips water in the same place ;-)

If you have a manual gear box, then there will be a button on the dash. Guess you could call 1st & 2nd on a manual low range :D

Have you checked the fuses. The low range is engaged by an electric motor in the transfer box

Ooops... That's me told :)
Well that's my new thing learn't for today....

Pollen filter housings leak, put some sealer around the flange (ooh er misses) and that should sort the leak out.

Morning all,
I've had a leak in this area and found it to leaves clogging up the drains around the bonnet hinges. Have a llok around here and make sure that the areas around the hinges are free of any vegetation etc. On mine it only takes a few leaves to allow the water to enter-I've also in the past put ealent around the pollen filter housing as suggested.

All the best

Steve

If you have aircon, check the aircon drains under the car either side of the gearbox, if blocked they will drip water into the footwell.

thanks guys, im from ayrshire scotland, and my ride is a 96 p38 manual, bmw 2.5, with a button on the dash, for high and low gears, thanks for the advise.
