Hi

Carpet and headlining are out whilst I sort these leaks.

Just resealed the sunroofs with new seals too.

Took the outer A Pillar trim off the passenger side and resealed the top corner. (need to do the drivers side as it's leaking through the seam on the top of the windscreen)

However I've still got a leak on the passengers side. With it drizzling outside I've looked and found it to be running down from the bonnet release handle bolt and further up from the seam. From there I have no idea where it could be getting in. Help

You can just make it out, it runs from the seam at the top of pic 3

Hi, if you look carefully there is a blanking plate with a foam seal on the outside of the A piller -near the door hinge. It's to do with some additional cooling fopr hotter countries. Sorry picture is 90 degrees out|

Hi, looked through that but i doubt it coming from there, but is a nice inspection hole.

I'm thinking it's coming from the metal joint at the right of the scuttle tray, I've siliconed it up but I'm still getting this leak.

I'll have another look but it's going to be a wing or scuttle off job next I think

Hi, I have the same problem I had water running out of the unused 8mm threaded holes so I put a couple of bolts in them I then had a water dripping from the heater unit so I sealed all round that but the p/s was still letting water in I then sealed the join under the scuttle panels but still the water is getting in somehow!
I got mine last June as a project & it's still not quite ready for the road. If you make any headway with your leak could you post what you find it would be much appreciated.

This is my new daily so its my #1 mission to find it.

So, the leak which was causing a drip around the empty bolt hole area has gone for me. I think it was the top of the windscreen as it was leaking into the top channel and running down. I also have a slight rust area on the inside bottom windscreen corner but im pretty certain that was from the leak above. I literally got a syringe with a tube and put a little water where i thought it was leaking at the bottom of the windscreen to see where it would go (i often do this if i drop a bolt) but it came in a totally different area.

Ive still got the leak running down the seam as in my pictures. Ive had the wing and windscreen finisher trim off today (it then decided to snow) and sprayed it all with the hose but it never leaked! After it had been snowing for a while it then started slightly.

Ive sealed up a few areas but my plan is to do what you have done when i take my scuttle panel off, im just not keen on unbolting the bonnet.

The scuttle panel comes off without removing the bonnet you just slacken the bolts then with a bit of jiggling you can remove it.
I managed to put a small split in mine which I glued & ran a hot iron over so be careful with it as they are on the brittle side.

Thanks, by slacken the bolts do you mean the bonnet bolts and slide it forward?
Yeah the bonnet bolts & you should be able to get it back in the same position by the build up of paint around the bolt heads.
With ref. to the fact it didn't leak when hosed but did after it snowed that is again like mine. After I'd done the top of the windscreen/both sunroofs/gutters/roof bars/heater intake & the seam along the bulk head I then washed it & got nothing but after a couple of months the passenger carpet was wet:mad:. The only bit on the bulk head I didn't do was the raised hump in the middle. I going to put paper towel along the top of the carpet on the passenger side as my leak isn't as obvious as yours & see if it's coming from under the dash:eek:. I'll let you know what happens.
 
If you keep this up I may find my leak, new windscreen as it was badly chipped, carpets out an fresh underseal both inside and out, I even drilleda new hole under the sill at the bottom of the 'A' post still got a wet carpet
 
Update:

Sealed the scuttle as you said, the full length, up towards the windscreen corners and around the heater intake (also slit some air pipe and put that around the edge to raise it up a bit).

Gave it a sprinkler-ing for a good 20 minutes and the leak on the a pillar seems to have gone, touch wood on one leg with my fingers crossed whilst chanting 'Land Rover'. (im not yet convinced)

What i did find is a leak from the blower motor, looks like its been doing it a whilst as the screws are rusty. The only place it can be coming in from is the intake behind the scuttle and from what i've read if the scuttle isn't tight up to the windscreen this is the issue. So i've sealed along the edge with some clear sealant as there was no other option. Will retest again soon.

Im told here could have been the point of entry for my leak and that the bonnet hinge bracket can often leak so would be worth doing if its off again;

Love it:):):):) a sense of humor is the best tool a LR owner can have. I hope you've made some progress, as you probably know the hole you circled is for the water to drain from the bulk head & since I sealed mine, the water that doesn't drain off just stays there, which I take as a good sign but the fact I didn't reseal the centre part makes me wonder if that's the cause of mine. I'll take your tip & seal along the scuttle panel rubber where it meets the screen & the bonnet hinge fixing is also a good shout. I've tucked paper towel along the length of the carpet edge where it ends under the dash & it doesn't get the slightest bit damp so it's like it's seeping between the panel joints somewhere. A couple of months back I had stuffed some paper towel in the large oval grommet where the engine bay wiring loom enters the passenger footwell & it seemed damp so I resealed that, I just hope we can get there in the end ;).
Since my last attempts at the water leaks a few months back & hoping I'd sorted them all (but obviously not), I've been doing other bits like drilling out the three broken exhaust studs along with an air con. compressor bolt, which to add to my pain, snapped off whilst removing it for access to the manifold :mad:. All the broken studs & bolt are now drilled & re-tapped so I'm just waiting for the manifold to be skimmed which should be back Friday.
So I'll continue to drink holy water from a LR mug whilst sat in it, facing mecca, with my lucky rabbits foot stuck in a place where the sun don't shine, in the vain hope that one day I'll be able to drive it:). Good luck.
 
At least your landrover mug doesn't leak.

The hole circled I mean to seal the edges onto the other panels not the whole thing, water needs to drain somewhere. I picked the old factory sealant out when I did it and found that there is a fair joint which would indeed allow water in.

Sorry I wasn't implying you filled the whole hole:) but I will have a better look round mine to make sure I've left no gaps but as I said mine now puddles in that area. It's good to see what's behind the wing. Do you think water could get in between the wing & A pillar joint ?
 
Yes, another known leak point as water runs into the channel I sealed it when I had it off. I'll take it off again at some point and do some painting.
