I think its just for sound deadening.

I keep cheking mine over winter and dry it out when nessersary. I cut it all out to save having to take the carpet out each time.

Now summer is here and its warm inside the cabin I aint so worried as they dry out naturally.

I have also tried to find the leak without success, although I think sealing the windscreen surround helped.

Thanks - was thinking of just leaving the whole lot out. Its an off road\green lane car anyway so a bit more noise is not an issue. Do you know if there is anything I can put down instead of the carpet and sponge?

I have also just noticed that my passenger footwell is sopping wet on my 300tdi. I have pulled up the carpet and sound deadening rubber and sprayed water on the windscreen. I can see water coming in from 3 places:
1) With my head inside the footwell looking up I can see water is running along the joint at the top left hand side and running down next to the door seal next to the bonnet pull level.
2) Running down the blower motor and dripping onto the floor
3) coming from what looks like the seal at the bottom of the windscreen and running down the inside of the bulkhead.

From all of this, and before I set to stripping the car down, does it sound reasonable that it's the windscreen seal or is there anywhere else that water could get in to run down the outside of the blower motor?

I have a discovery 1 - V8 and other I sold year ago seam problem water in the driver and passenger side. I come crazy with the other and also with this but I not have idea where the water coming front. Land rover can be very good car but have very serious problems with water and seals :monitor_punch:

hi i had the sodden carpets drivers and passenger side all it was that the door posts were filling up because the drain holes underneath were blocked everyone seems to lookup top but its usually underneath told this by a mate who works for land rover rgds kev

There are drain holes under the vehicle at the base of the A pillars. Check these are clear of crap or water can't escape. They are difficult to see, so a mirror and torch may help.

Check fitment of scuttle at base of windscreen. If rubber is not hard up against the glass, water will get in through heater intake. I'd seal this with sikaflex anyway to be belt and braces.

Mine leaks like sieve unless I park it with the rear down hill, have sealed every thing I can find it still ****ing leaks so it just gets parked down hill as I can't be arsed ****ing about with it, cars only of ****ing about in :)

i had both front foot wells full of water, took carpet and rubber underlay out, and found splits in the floor pan both sides

Ive had to resort to this, my water ingress is through the scuttle somewhere and into the box section that the windscreen sits on. It drips through the seem high up behind the steering frame.

tried looking for the drain holes. They must be bunged up as I cant even see them

Anyone got a pic of them ??

Hi. the problem you are experiencing sounds similar to what i had a year ago - holes in the inner wings. In my case the wing had rusted through near the electrics below the glove box. There was a great hole, after I had the wing off and the chipping hammer out! Soaking carpets and dangerously near all the electric bits and bobs. Drivers side similar. Had both wings off and those useless wheel arch liners and welded the lot up.

Fingle not sure of the drain holes you are after but at the bottom of the a pillar there are 10mm dia holes that can get bunged up causing the a pillar to fill with water.....not hard to find them no need to take anything off etc

If you have aircon there are rubber type 2 drain tubes for that accessed from under the car and in the gearbox tunnel, if blocked these can cause wet carpets when aircon used. Unless you go deep in water its best to remove the non return valve part of these tubes as it just causes more tendency for them to block up.....

By the way my 300tdi leaks into the footwells and has no significant rust anywhere or sun roofs and i have no idea where its getting in, had lots of theories and eureka moments and still not figured it out

Ive had the wings off and re sealed the vertical seam and improved the drainage of the horizantel channel section by drilling a hole in it above the new sealant to prevent rust and fix what is really a design error...hopefully......

Try removing and resaling the wiper motor and heater motor in the scuttle panel, that's where I've found leaks before now. The stupid foam seal degrades and lets water in. Reseal with sikaflex or similar to cure it.

Thnks quattro thats next on my list even tho it all looks good...any tips for doing this job of removing scuttle panels please? (Sorry if this hijacking the thread)

Remove wiper arms, then undo the screws. Careful removing it at each end as it tucks under the wing, but with careful manouvering it will come out, just be extra careful in chilly weather as the plastic gets brittle

following this thread i just used silkaflex to seal the drivers windscreen scuttle and passenger scuttle, the drivers side is so far staying dry which is a great result............., the passenger side leak was not fixed by the re seal but i will pay some attention to the mudflap plate to see if the corrosion on that is the cause that side......then the wiring harness grommet albeit that looks ok.

ive already had the wings off and resealed the main joints there

the drivers side gasket looked in good condition but obviously was still leaking
