I have carried out numerous searches on this problem and its starting to get on my nerves a little now to the point where i think oh f&%$ it, it'l be rate, im getting rid in three years!

Anyway, I have previously had a rather bad leak from the Windscreen top seal, this was fixed about August last year. I have since noticed my carpet at the back seat area was wet near the B pillar.. Further investigation led me to finding the front carpets were soaking!!

This is both the sides! Im at a loss as to where this is coming in from, i have done the hosepipe test with no clear indication of where the water is coming from on either side!

I have checked the sunroof, no dripping here
I have checked the Air Con, No blockage here - I dont use it anyway
I have checked the door seals, they look fine to me

Where else could it be coming from? I have head people mention a water ingress manual.. I cant seem to find this if anyone thinks it will help

Thanks for your time

Mark

if its an early type 200/300 discovery it could be coming from the drain tray in the bonnet area it feeds in to two holes at the ends and run's down the inner wing were it meets a channel that runs along the length of the wing its here that they rust and the water run's though in to the floor well to check remove the kick panel in the floor well run a hose in to tray and see if the water's running down the bulk head/A post area if it does leak then find some air hose or similar cut off around 12in push the hose in and down the inner wing and then seal around the hose this should take the water past the rusty parts hope this helps :).

Its a 2003 Discovery ive checked the sunroofs, theres no evidence of water leaking from them. One of them was leaking from the plastic connection that fastens to the sunroof but i have sealed this and its stopped that one.

Alpine windows appeared to be fine when i put the hosepipe onto them, am i right in thinking that it runs along the chanel below the window?

Its strange how i have it in both footwells, Its becoming a pain in the arse!

I have rubber floormats so thats always a bonus, it hides the wet patches!

Any other ideas?

have you got the kick plates off and the carpets up, sit inside with a mate spraying the hose on there and see if you can see it coming in

Ive tried that but couldnt see anything. i've put newspapers down now to see where its coming from! Its certainly not coming in when the hosepipes on!

Those sun roofs leak even if you can not see it.I reckon its the biggest common problem on discos.I put duck tape around mine and do not use the sun roof.It can not be seen as its high up.Just a thought

mines doing the same as yours ive found water is coming in exactly where mudrover has said today i thought i will find out how to take wing off and seal that bloody hole its not a big one but enough to sodden the carpet never thought of that with the hose cheers mudrover ps mudrover can i take the hose right down to the bottom or is it too far and what if i were to seal that drain hole and drill it bout inche in so it drains into engine bay and not down inner wing what you think

I have just been looking tonight, Roof liner out. No leaks from the sunroofs!!

Now - I think i have found the source of one of these leaks on the drivers side.

If you look to the right of the fuse box area there is a small spot weld, the drips are coming from this! I cant see what its spot welding on the outside - Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Think i may have found the culprits -
The passenger footwell: = Its coming in around the area of the cable gromet at the back of the footwell! - Has anyone experienced this before?

The Drivers footwell: = I think the post is getting water into it from the three pegs which hold the windscreen finishers on at the side then dropping down the post and coming out of the weld on the inside of the car! - Sound possible?

Yes newbie you could do that sound ok but make sure you stop the water sitting in the inner wing to bulk head bit as they rust up bad there to some times. You can' t get all the way down with the hose as the wheel arch liner gets in the way, the real fix is to sort the rusty channel out and have the wing off hope this helps.:)

Thanks for that - The water runs straight out through the bottom of the wing.. .Does this mean its ok?,
Dont fancy taking the wing off to be honest! Got one too many other jobs to do on the disco at the moment :(

It's only a 10minute job to whip the wing off.

are the wings just bolted on,are they easy any hidden nasties iam heavey handed and have little patience if its easy with no hidden nasties will have a look and sort my rust out like i say its only a small area from what i can see

Mark, Mine is not as bad as yours, but have you looked at the seals where the roof rails join the roof? I am putting some sillicone sealant around mine as they seem to have persihed but would be a bugger to take off and replace. Let me know. CHeers:cool:

have you taken the carpets out and that crap foam sponge underneath. Most discos rust through the floor footwell and the sponge makes it 100 times worse.

my water is coming not around the rubber gromet but actually along the wires in the wiring loom ! Been told to fill the outer part with silicone seal - so will try that and let you know !

Cruser102 - Sorry to jack your thread!! Hope you sort the water issue - i know what a pain it is...!

HMH - Is that sponge underneath the carpet needed? I have a water issue in my '95 Disco as wel and no idea where its coming from. Need to start stripping the seats and carpet out but didn't know if that sponge was really needed?? Thanks

I think its just for sound deadening.

I keep cheking mine over winter and dry it out when nessersary. I cut it all out to save having to take the carpet out each time.

Now summer is here and its warm inside the cabin I aint so worried as they dry out naturally.

I have also tried to find the leak without success, although I think sealing the windscreen surround helped.
