After changing the top gasket my td4 engine still mixes water and oil even before starting the engine. The mechanic says there's no water in the radiator so the oil cooler is okay. What could it be then. Please help me guys.

"Top gasket"? Would that be the Cylinder head gasket or the cam cover gasket?

The mechanic says there's no water in the radiator so the oil cooler is okay.

Of course there's no water in the radiator ... it's all in the sump! What's the oil cooler got to do with water in the radiator?

Cylinder head gasket, not the top gasket faulty or blown. Replace the CH gasket
Warped cylinder head. Have the head skimmed true again.
Cracked cylinder head. Replace the cylinder head.

Remove the engine and weigh it in. Burn the rest.

There is a water to oil heat exchanger when you turn the engine off there is no oil pressure but still pressure in the cooling system, hence an internal leak in the heat exchanger and the result is water in the sump. I have seen oil in the water too but get the cooler pressure tested.

Would the car still run with this problem owl?.My mate has the same, oil mixing with water but appears to run okish.Gets a bit of backfire on tick over!.

This doesn't make much sense. Does he mean "no water in the oil cooler". If so, how does he know?

Well yes the engine will run OK for a while but obviously there is a problem that need urgent attention.

Sorry guys I actually meant no oil in the radiator so according to the mechanic, the oil cooler is fine. The water goes into the oil sump before he even starts the engine.

Hi guys,"The Engineer"was right, the cylinder head and the cylinder head gasket didn't fail, after talking the block for pressure test,it failed,so the block is cracked hence water going straight into the oil channel into the sump.Thanx guys for your ideas.
