Hi everyone
I have just purchased a freelander 1 1.8 petrol and when it gets warm water is being forced out of the expansion bottle, could anyone give me a clue why this is happening, I'm not sure if the cap is faulty as it spins when I tighten it up as though its on a clutch is this right, and it looks like there's a thermostat thingy in the cap what's that for.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated
Dave

I've never come across a cap that spins, get a new one and take it from there. Not sure where you'll get one before Tuesday though

Replace the cap as Kermit said , check the thermostat is opening and the radiator isn't blocked ........be prepared for a blown headgasket

Cheers for the replies, all the pipes get hot when warmed up, I was thinking of getting a new cap as I've never known a cap to spin either but wasn't sure as I've not had a freelander before

The cap has a torque limiting override clutch. This is designed to prevent over tightening of the cap. If the cap is sealing, then clicks, its a good sign its sealing ok.

If it holds pressure, then suddenly vents out coolant after a while, it's potential a HG issue.
