a) admits the vehicle they were driving was in an unroadworthy condition if its underreporting the speed,
b) QED admits they have no idea what speed they were actually doing
Faulty speedo fine = £2,500 for goods vehicles ( so thats most of us defender owners) and £1,000 for other vehicles.

I spotted an advert in a well known classic car publication relating to a dealer offering a classic American car for sale. In the text listing the pro's & con's of the vehicle was the statement that the speedo was not working but that it 'shouldn't be a problem to overcome' or words to that effect. How can a dealer offer a car for sale with non functioning speedo?
nb: the vehicle was NOT being sold as a 'spares or repair' project.

same way as they can sell cars without an Mot, etc,

Caveat Emptor........ (AKA sold as seen)
buyers responsibility to ensure what they buy is legal, compliant, not stolen etc

It is unlawful for a vendor to to mis-lead or mis represent, sounds like the seller in your example discharged this responsibility correctly advising by advertising the vehicle had a faulty speedo.

Add to that the legal minefield that is non originally UK registered / imported / classic vehicle.

and you wont find a poor consumer or contract lawyer.

That will be me 80mph on motorways when possible, so soon to be no more :( until we know where the cameras are positioned :)

What are the “two a clock” owners going to do, stay in bed asleep and their car left in the garage:(

why not re calibrate your speedo to 10MPh lower? then you could still do 80 might make you feel better, just dont tell yourself when you do it :p

That’s to much trouble I’ll just stay a millimetre or two under the #70 until it all be comes clear :D
According to my sat nav, at the speedo 70mph I’m travelling at 65 mph, but then we all know how unreliable they are, mine tells me “you have reach your destination” (home) and that’s a minutes walk a way.

Traffic density and speed monitoring plus a fat controller looking at a screen somewhere along with integrated weather info must at some point lead to the very slow 70 max being increased, please!
