Gents this is all nonesense, clearly the most sensible fluid with which to recondition a VCU is Dingo ****. Ask any ozzy.

On a serious note though, I really do think that they are a neat piece of mechanical design and not just the "bodge" solution that people seem to ascribe to most of the Freelander's systems. Does anyone really seriously believe that "some guy got his maths wrong" with the different diff ratios? No word of a lie I had a Land Rover parts "specialist" tell me that. Hosh and tosh, and alot of bosh too. Like most opinion surrounding these cars :rolleyes:.
 
Ignoring my money making plan:) I thought they were designed/geared for the front wheels to turn faster than the rear, to make it handle like an idiot proof front drive car? This difference was lessened in 2001, supposedly meaning less breakages? And the VCU was meant to take up the difference as well as provide 4x4, this is why you should put your newer bigger tyres on the back. So when the VCU seizes the difference gives huge wind up, more than on say a classic with one and it self destructs! That's how the on road torque split works:)

Given the choice, in the jungle, starving, I'd rather suck chocolate out of my VCU than Dingo **** any day;)

it was a mistake ,driving front wheels slightly faster to give mondeo man feeling of normality, rr borgwarner is great bit of design:)
