Having just crawled out of the side window of a Merc ML into FREEZING water to get to dry land we noticed the air intakes on the Merc are either side of the radiator, facing forwards (admittedly towards the top). That got me thinking about the air intake on my tdv8 L322. Looks like it takes air from the nearside wheelarch which I guess is relatively safe and in some ways acts like a diving bell (keeping the air trapped in the arch). Thus I expect my Land Rover (Although it says Range Rover I still consider it a proper land rover)will wade better than the Merc. So ..... is my assumption true and is there anything else to worry about, eg electrics low down, breathers etc. I ask as I'm referring to a ford near home and this experience has shaken me somewhat in that am I lucky or likely to make a expensive mistake?? the ford is 10 yards across so normally a quick in/out.

Thanks in advance. Oh and hello to the landyzone community....

Read your hand book DO NOT wade above recommended depth and follow the instructions for wading. Remember water that may appear shallow is not always, even if it only comes half way up the local Ducks.

L405 aside (which could be registered as a submarine!) most Land Rover wading limits are pretty much the height of the wheel. Make sure your door seals are in good shape, clean them and the bodywork they touch, then apply alight smear of Vaseline to the seals.

500mm is max according to book....

I have waded to about 750.....but for pity's sake don't stop else the bow wave will subside and you in a world of hurt.

L405 offical wade is 900mm

My p38 regularly wades in a ford that gets to about a foot deep when raining
Although its flooded at the moment! about 3foot so...im daft but not that daft lol ill go the long way round

900mm? Wheres the air intake? On the fecking roof?

I went through 2.5 ft the other week and must admit, every one on here thought I had lost it. I must say, having looked around the car later, if anything went wrong and I got stuck then I would have killed the car.
I would say 2ft max. make sure your suspension is fully up though.

I would like to have rad muff on though to stop the sh1t getting in.

cheers.,

not sure on the L322 but I have driven a P38 through standing water which was level with the bonnet and not a problem! make sure revs are high and dont stop.

You are a very lucky boy. Maximum recommended wading depth for a P38 is 20 inches.
