Great head gasket write up. I always laugh when people put aside a weekend for head gaskets. Is it true Turner's no longer want gems blocks for remanufacture. Gems are rapidly falling off a cliff as far as parts go unfortunately I guess they will soon be a rare beast!
Why wouldnt they want Gems blocks? only difference is the CPS fitting?

Struggling with rear bumper removal to fit towbar, got main bolts out, chassis self tappers for wheelarch liner and mudflaps, went to release clips on sliding blocks, but they were already undone!

My rear bumper was a total PITA to get off. The bolt by the tow eye was absolutely rusted in place and needed drilling. Not easy with the damn tow eye in the way. Made a bit of a mess.

Yes, and the Thor CPS fitting was available, don't know about the Gems version. EIQ100020 is the Thor version housing.

Just be sure of getting the later cross-bolted block.

Plenty of sellers showing the Thor housing in stock.

Mine both came out, at present we're driving round with nothing holding the bumper on :)

I agree but Im just quoting this thread. I guess v8 block demand is diminishing probably gems blocks are not worth messing with. Other places will re liner your own block.
Are reinz gaskets a good choice? Are the head gaskets better than elring?(OEM) or even britpart?

Reinz are one of the best, they are owned by the Dana Corporation, haven't used Elring but hear good things about them.

Britpart are unbranded, as are most third party sellers, and I've had two lots that have failed prematurely on two different engines.

Better pay for a decent brand than have to pull it all apart again down the line.
