Great info everyone.
There seems to be a great deal of conflicting information as regards what to do with veggie oil etc.
Add petrol?
Add white spirit?
Mix with diesel etc etc.

May be there should be a pole as to who uses what and how.

I ran me 110 2.5td on up to 80% veg oil the only ill effect was it was a bit lumpy for a minute or so on cold mornings. The 200tdi I've got now is running on 80% veg and I can't tell the difference from pump diesel except for the smell. All these heaters and other ****e are totally unnescessary the people who say you need em are all trying to sell something.
Incidentally there's a bloke at wort who's running a 2002 peugeot on 50% used veg oil with no modifications and he reckons it's fine.

:( Ive got some veg oil that was bought from Bookers.Think its KTC brand ,in the ingredients it says its made with soya oil with anti foaming agents .Is this stuff ok to put in my tdi.Only asking because Ive read so much stuff ont tinternet you dont know what to believe.I read somewhere not to use soya oil because of polymisation [ or something like that ?] and anti foaming agents are no good either. Please help before I go nuts.

Add petrol or white spirit (or anything else) and it seems you lose the legality of it, the only thing you legaly and not have to pay tax on it is officially turn it to biodiesel by removing the sugars (?) or mix it with diesel to thin it.

How does adding petrol make it illegal. You've paid duty on the petrol haven't you? So surely from a customs point of view it's no different from mixing with derv??

Dunno, just remember readin it in that fred that was a letter from the tax man saying what could n couldn't be done - the tax on petreol is different to the tax on diesel so maybe that's it. Bottom line was that anything added to it in the tank other than diesel and the whole tank was liable for road duty.

I've read so many different opinions on what you can and can't do I've just given up and just do whatever I feel like:D
As for soya oil I've used it in me 2.5td dunno if it had any additives but it ran fine.

Thinking of running my tdi on veggie oil deisel mix do i have to mix them together before pouring into tank or can i just pour in deisel then oil in.

i put veg oil in first, then doozel, but i don't think it really matters.

I spoke to customs and excise and the dep of environment yesterday about the legality of mixing veg oil with white spirit or petrol to use it as fuel in my disco.
They said that it was perfectly legal to do this but the only thing i should do is keep a record of how much i make and use incase i get stopped by the roadside dipping demons so i can show them i haven't used more than the 2500l allowance.
So I'm starting filtering and mixing tomorrow:D:D.

What ratio are you mixing?

I just met a guy the other day running a peugeot 306 on a mix of 10/1 veg oil to petrol and he's been running it 100% for the past year. The only thing he does is change his filter every 1k miles. i'll let you know how i get on with it in a disco.

tesco 80p litre or buy a filter for a £5 and use used chippy oil,or if u are in kent i have filtered and unfiltered, and a few filters?me and a few mates use it all the time i get about 80 litres week,we don't use it all so its backing up a bit in the workshop.

Which Tesco are you getting 80p a litre at? All the others it's now over £1.30! (nearly £4 for 3 litres)
