I've left it running for a while no change. It's not insured yet.
I borrowed a compress ion tester so I'll see if the rings are good.
It could be diesel so I'll check injector spray too
I would start mine to move it about on tick over so the engine did get run in that time so it was a bit of a surprise to see clouds of smoke behind me when it had its first proper run on its way to mot, it failed because the brakes had gone spongy by the time I got there so back home bleed brakes!

I wonder if it hits the fan when someone mentions LR on the J..P forum
The difference is, it would be a compliment to call a heap of j##p a Range Rover. To call a Range Rover a j##p is just mean and nasty. It's like telling someone their bum does look big in that. ;)

Reap the creek in a wickliw j???
Anywho, I got the starter rebuilt and she started up after a painful refitting experience.
A lotta smoke. I'm not so impressed with.
Anyone ever redone the rings in a VM2.5?
I'll drive it round the fields for a while and if no improvement it looks like I'll be pulling pistob out of its bum and fitting new rings.
Hope the liners aren't too glazed
Thanks for the comments guys. Keep em coming
Did you check the bores when you had the heads off? I drove mine back from France with 4 cracked heads and as I found out later, broken rings and the bore of number 3 damaged. Bit of white smoke on start-up was the only sign. She overheated when the rad was blocked by butterflies and ladybirds. They were in plague proportions that year. I read somewhere there is a mod for the cooling system which involves a t piece. You may have to Google that.
