Those under the wing tanks are great. I've got one and the extra 30 or 40 litres makes a big difference to how far you can get between fill-ups. Maybe another 150-200 miles. Get plenty of Waxoyl, Dinitrol or similar on the crossmember and the struts to the seat belt mounts beforehand because you won't be seeing them for a while.

Aye I'm Gina repair the crossmember before I fit it. I'm short a bsp fitting to connect the tanks do waiting on it to be delivered.

I'm gonna tig up another tank fir the left hand side too. Can never have too much fuel on board!

Discovered the qt arms I'd bought secondhand are the wrong ones. They are wide and my axles narrow. Bugger!

Whilst in one way I'm sorry to hear that, in another I see a ray of hope. I have an entry in the wanted section...........

Anyone know if there is any physical difference between late model 110 calipers and earlier salisbury disc ones? (other than abs etc).

Wondering about putting a late model axle on rather than having the salisbury rebuilt.

I purchased a caliper for my 300tdi disco once...

...turned out it was a 200tdi one. They are certainly different.

(if that answers your question?)

ps. i still have the 200 one.

i mention it in the hopes of flogging it ; )

Brand new, still with plastic plugs in the threads, genuine lockheed, etc.etc.

pattern 300s are not big money though - probably £100 for a pair (new) once all is said and done?

ok well ive bought a "normal" 24 spline axle instead...

the hassle with salisburys just isnt worth it. Ill bang a locker in it then too as i did manage to get stuck on the grass with it yesterday AKA wolf stylee!

Later 110s had thicker pads, and therefore wider calipers. Not sure when it changed, 2002 seems to ring a bell? Should be easy enough to tell from Microcat etc.

I'm sure you know, but the late Td5/Tdci axle is not the same as a bog standard Disco/90 rear axle. Different diff etc.

yeah thats why i was checking :)

Ive bought one now, gonna pick it up at the weekend. so i will have 4wd drive back again! yaaayyy

ah i bought another salisbury last night, i cant be arsed with having to get a different propshaft etc so this one was on ebay with delivery... sod it!

The disco one can go on the wifes 90 to convert it to discs.

I removed the roof tent and aluminium box off the roof the other day. JJEEEEZZZZ they were heavy on there together. Infact the aluminium box felt bloody heavier!

Anyway my skull softened the blow of me dropping the tent... one of the feet on the roof rack bit dragged down my head and ive got a reet scar to show for it. I look like a flippin harry potter fan now!

Removed the front seats as i wanted to get to the seatbox to discover why, whenever i drive through deep puddles, i get water blasting up from around the seat base. Must be letting in a right draft as well. Theres a few holes for bolts etc but nothing major. Ill investigate more. Theres an exmoor trim seatbox surround thing on there making things difficult to get to at present.

Whilst the seats are off, i am modifying the bases of the smart seats to be easily removable so i can get access to the storage tray and battery tray underneath them. I did this mod on the smart seats in my old 110 and it worked pretty well.

Great write-up Vil.

I stuck with the original Salisbury axle, just needs new half shafts. Whilst the idea of rear calippers sounds brill it seems a bit of a fuss. My next move is to remove the boge unit and fit a standard a frame pivot (?).

Roof tents are blumin heavy when you're by your self.

Bit more work done,

  • replaced the broken rear axle for another good un' - so rear drive is now restored! also fitted an ARB on the back. I can say I am converted, its much nicer to drive on the road with it fitted.
  • replaced the rad as it split randomly one night... got an alumium one and it does run a bit cooler :) loosing no water now.
  • did that smart car seat base mod so i can lift off the bases for access to the battery tray and tool tray.
  • whipped off the drivers wing, rebuilt the outrigger and undersealed everything. Also sorted out the wiring etc whilst there. Looks much better.
  • Replaced the QT rear trailing arms with some adrenalin 4x4 ones. (bit cheesed with andrenalins customer service but otherwise the quality is good)
  • replaced several missing grommet seals on the bulkhead which has stopped some noise and drafts.

Had a minor fire in it yesterday... somethings failed and sprayed hot oil over the engine which then ignited... loads of fun! managed to put it out with a powder extinguisher and we used the disco to drag it home. I towed the 110 with the mrs driving it, and she managed to ram it into the disco several times - Massive argument.....

Burnt some wiring, air intake is toast, top of the snorkel is all melted, fan intake is melted, clutch hose burst, and oil dipstick plastic all melted. All fixable so will crack on with it, then see what caused the problem in the first place.

Annoyingly, the RAC refused to recover me, saying that because it was a fire it was an insurable incident and thus they wanted £250 to take me home (20 miles) - the woman on the phone got an earfull....

To repair the damage ill be whipping the passenger wing off, so ill sort that outrigger and the bulkhead on that side whilst i am there.

Sorry to hear about your fire. Hope it's all repairable.

So did you go for a limited slip or a locker for the back axle in the end?

Ah cheers I'm just stripping it down now to sort it. Most expensive damage is the 200tdi air intake bit. Those things always fetch stupid money.

Rest is all just wiring.

I cheated an bought another salisbury axle and just bolted it on. I'm refurbish a"normal" disc brakes axle, bracing it etc and will use the lsd ashcroft offer that's about 400 notes that seem to get excellent reviews. I'll do front and back then with the same kit :)

Can't remember the model of it.

Well i whipped the wing off today, and found quite a bit of damage to the bulkhead from rot. Ill be sorting that tomorrow too. Itll be better than before the fire at the end of it :)

Fires also melted the accelerator cable (how annoying) but overall costs seem to be under £20 of damage! not bad I would say. Unless the wastegate actuator is damaged... not sure yet.

Argument prevention device :D

Used em several times and takes the hassle out of towing
