Hi all,
I have jut fitted a set of 265/70/16 general grabber at2 on steel modulars to my 2001 discovery TD5 and find a bad vibration at 80-95 KPH, I have taken the care to a tire shop today who have re-balanced the front wheels, but this has not solved the vibrations.

Wheel nuts are torqued up to 140NM, tyre pressure of 32PSI up front and 38 in the back.

Can anyone suggest what else could be causing this vibration?

Thanks in advance for any help!
Andy

IMO you should have rebalanced all the wheels then go further, rear unbalanced wheels can create vibrations too just that not directly in the steering wheel

Thanks, I will also get the rears balanced on the weekend.

The vibration is through the steering wheel between about 50 & 60 MPH.
The centre bore of the wheels is slightly bigger than my hub, so the bolts take the load, but I believe this is normal on modulars?

Thanks again,
Andy

hi andye611. I've got exactly the same problem with a set of bfg ats the same size on bearmach steels that suddenly started vib through steering. Balanced several times at different places, no change. Have replaced nearly all steering rods and joints which only improved things slightly.
However, nearly eradicated the shakes by cleaning ALL traces of grease off the hub and rims with brake cleaner.
Still seem to have intermittent vibration esp on wet roads.....
