Only guessing, but depending on load distribution, I reckon a seized VCU could cause bouncing as the transmission unwinds over minor bumps in the road.
Very true....Thinking out side the box in a non-linear fashion - like it...

It has been known for others to drive for a few weeks on one prop - not sure what the damage or outcome of this would be - can't say yes it will be fine or no it will be a bit iffy....

Having never done it myself and not having read up to much on the cause and effect - I couldn't give a definitive - maybe another member with more experience than me can answer....sorry!

If the VCU is definately seized then apart from the risk of it self destructing I can't see a problem. If it is not seized, it may well be after 1000 miles towing.

So data in your opinion leave front prop
on or remove it. Will this wind up wreck the gear box/ transfer box
And is it a case of replacing front axle when I get home

Wind up on the Gearbox will trash it...

Leaving Front Prop on will cause wind up....

I would take prop off, drive safely and avoid hash acceleration etc....

VCU is in the Transfer Box not the Axles...

if vc is seized solid remove a prop ,wind up usually wrecks diff ,ujs ,tyres, doesnt usually bother gear box ,the only effect is all torque through one diff which wont hurt as long as you dont try wheel spins

Thanks for the Clarification JM....everyday is a school day (especially for me at the moment it seems!!):D

Remove front prop as others said:) VCU is in the front of the transfer box.

Are they easy to do. I ve got access to a ramp
back home. Couldn't budge prop bolts so Iam taking her
up to a garage in the village at 2. Fingers crossed you've nailed it
lads

9/16 AF spanner size don't use anything metric you will knacker the nuts.

So prop has been removed. Took it for a spin car seems to drive better
and only have bouncing/ rocking movement between 20-25mph then it's smooth
Gonna have ride into Rodez tomorrow and have wheel balance checked
But it definitely drives better before when prop was on it felt like the car was fighting against something when was going forward.

It would do the VCU smooths out any rotational difference front to back.

So front prop off and both front wheels balanced.
Still doing it. Put. Front prop back on ?
Did you confirm using the 'one wheel in the air trick' if the VCU is seized??

If it is seized, it may well be better to leave it off, that way it allows the front and rear axles to rotate at different speeds....if it is locked up, you could bust a diff with it reconnected.
