Hi Guys I've just bought a SWB 1983, every thing seems fine apart from the breaks pedal being very hard, but the brakes work fine, I think its the brake servo , but I havent seen anyone selling replacements online or in magazines, Does anyone know where I can get one??

have you checked to see if the shoes are adjusted properly

It is VERY unlikely that a servo fails.

First make sure there is VACUUM getting to it.
If it's a petrol engine that means a fat black hose attached to the manifold.
It it's a diesel the fat hose connects to the vacuum pump on the middle of the block left side.

Take the fat black hose clean off and make sure it is clear right through.
Put one end of the hose back on the vacuum pump or manifold.
Plug the other end with a bolt or something.
Start the engine.

Pull out the plug on the end of the hose and put your thumb over the open end of the pipe. There should be a decent suck. If there isn't don't worry about the servo till you get a good suck on that hose.

Remember there is a little felt air filter in the servo fitted around the input pushrod. If it is completely choked that won't help.

HI before you replace it check there is enough suction on pipe to servo, i replaced mine recently and after fitting found that the true cause of servo not working was vacuum leak , on my 84 diesel it was the hand throttle not closing off the butterfly valve in inlet manifold sorting the leak did give a better feel to pedal

We want to know TOMORROW what was the problem!

Looks like the consensus is a lack of suck .....

........... and we all know good it is to get a proper suck.

LOL I know...I know, wish I could wok on her too but unfortunatly I dont get from the HELL of work untill after dark these day. So saturday morning it is. But I will post back on this when I find the problem.
