She works nights so wont reply yet...sounds like a good offer though, she may not be getting ripped off by the garage but sounds like a few minutes teaching the basics will save her a lot of money...

this tread still going? :p
@storm
when i give instructions (or write them anyway) i go about it like i was writing a book on the subject ......so it often reads like an operating manual (comes from doing so much bloody training for the jobs i have done)

@110woman landrover mechanics is prob the easiest to get into, there is plenty of space and its all simple mechanical systems (you should try working on the latest VAG stuff most have more ECUs than the bloody space station!)

@ G-Man....You gonna tell her what VAG and an ECU are then?

She may get very confused and think you are a gynecologist...

LOL :D

well i'm not a professional one..... but i'll take a look;)

technically speaking the name has changed from VAG to Volkswagen Group but all the Dubbers still call it VAG

and ECU stands for Electronic Control Unit (opposed to what most people think its not Engine Control Unit)

Tea & biscuits- i dont think so... for having a mooch around the beast it's at least a cheesecake !:)

"It's one small step for woman, one giant leap for womankind".....

haven't exactly started rebuilding the engine yet, haven't even put any oil or water in yet- it's raining - what can I say :eek:

but... have gone into the garage ( first time in about a year and a half- had to use wd40 on the door!) and have gathered together all my tools.

I am spotting a major flaw in my plan to turn into a mechanic overnight- managed to gather- 4 screwdrivers, a box full of spanners, a box full of metal round things that undo bolts but not the stick thing that moves them, and a box of drill bits - but no drill. and a pair of pliers( well theyre not pliers but dont know what theyre called- look like a dragons mouth ..)

so my first task is to draw up a list of the absolute minimum tool requirement and then feel good about doing that for a while, before moving on to step 2 -thinking about getting them.

step 34 in my transformation plan will actually be opening bonnet:)
