Welcome.

The quick upgrade is to use early TD5 lights.

Lots of people have upgraded to the later lights BUT in the UK, our thieving scumbags have realised that these later lights are easy to steal and the theft of them is becoming very problematic to say the least.

Nice lights but do a thorough search before continuing :D

If you want to go ahead and fit the later lamps (they're referred to as 'facelift' headlamps over here), I have a copy of a guide written by a reputable tuning company here - http://duckfieldengineering.com/forums/D2FaceliftHeadlampsGuide.pdf . You can get the OEM headlamp connectors nowadays, from here - Land Rover / Rover Connectors | Automotive Connectors | Switch on to Simtek(UK)...for motorsport electrical and electronic supplies...design solutions. | Simtek (UK) Ltd much tidier than soldering the wires directly to the headlamp ;)

That's a great write up but the only catch for the OP is that he has a D1 which has different profile wings. I've never found out how to overcome that but I know it can be done.

Just fit the lights by cutting away the metal in their way till they fit :D

Did mine in less than a day, and that was pre my welding days, so would be a lot quicker now in making up brackets for them to fit properly.

Yeah I know mate, I posted it so that the OP could see what is involved - and that its a one way process due to the mount of cutting involved.

TBH I think its probably easier on a D1 than on an early D2 because you can keep the D1 radiator grille - no need to fit the facelift grille if you don't want to. The early D2 grille has a heavily sculpted edge that sits lower than the headlamp trim line, whereas the D1 grille has a simple straight edge on the bottom like the facelift grille (although the facelift grille is slightly shorter, but only by 5mm or so) - which lines up with the bottom of the headlamp trim, so its all nice and tidy when done. The facelift headlamp trims fit onto the underside of the headlamps, whereas the early D2 trims fit into slots in the grille like the D1 - when I fitted a facelift front (minus headlamps) to my D2 I had to fit the later grille to match the bumper, and then fit hidden brackets to secure the headlamp trims. Just another of the little details that get missed ;)

Ok. According to the company that did the write up it will work just look a little off due to bummper. Witch is damaged and being replaced. So that problem is solved.

Now on to the next.

Anyone know were to find a winch bumper without selling my first born or loosing an arm and leg?

Welcome!
You should have a read of auf_wiedersehen_pet's build thread.
You can learn a lot and it'll give you some ideas!!!

ok so i looked upthe devon 4x4 website. amazing. ty. now i just have to wait fora reply from them to see if they will ship to the us. i hope so. less then 1000 us for the parts i wanted! steering plate, bumper and snorkle! amazing. but shipping will probly nail me

Well. No go on the parts. Devon won't ship any d44 range parts to the us due to insurance reasons. So if anyone comes across one of the d44 bumpers I would buy it and pay the shipping. Who ever finds it can choose how they get payed. Also I found the heavy duty rear bumper on ebay. I will be getting that soon.

When I do my headlight swap I will be doing the bumper aswell. And the fenders.

And thanks to the write up auf did I have many new ideas. I really like the exhaust set up in the rear panel. Looks pretty easy and atractive aswell
