hi all, sorry to hijack the thread, but do the seals go mainly with age or mileage?

My 1996 defender has only done 52,000 but blue smokes like a bus for a few minutes then it is perfectly clear after.

I too am thinking about changing the valve seals

Unless you are using motor oil wouldn't bother. Could be just a little extra fuel on start up

ah right, thanks for the replies!

i have noticed it has started to use a little oil, and when i start it after being left overnight and open the throttle it chokes up and struggles a little until the smoke clears. I ususally drive up the road with the cloud of smoke following me. Then its fine. but its a bit of a pain.
