Never seen that one but I did the bleed procedure several times before surgery without success.
I didn't do the 15 minute bleed on any occasion and I'm sure it hasn't been bled since the vanos and chain were done.
Bearing in mind it hasn't run for about 8 weeks until Wednesday, I can live in hope.

Just had a listen to the video in the last link you posted, his carries on tapping when he raises the revs, mine stops tapping when revved.
Not saying mine is a different fault, just highlighting the slightly different symptoms.

Listening to that and the description of it sounds to me like worn big end bearings (shells or journals)
Big end knock always goes less under load which is what, in effect, you are doing when you rev it.

That's your prerogative. I'm just offering up my experience.
It is quite a while since I had big ends fail, but on the 4 or 5 engines they did, they all sounded exactly like the video.
Entirely up to the OP whether he acts on the information.
 
A big end bearing would knock louder at higher revs at light throttle. Once the engine passes 1500 revs it's like a new engine, not a sound.
P. S. I've got it back, the tapping sounds more or less the same but the engine itself is completely silent, it's lovely.
It seems to have lost a bit of performance, feels like I'm dragging something behind me till it gets to 3500 revs then it takes off like a scalded cat, presumably when the vanos does its thing.
I phoned to mention it and he admitted that he didn't mark the vanos until after the cam chains were removed and he said the cam moved in the vanos(?) about 10 degrees so he's got a good idea why performance might be a bit off.
Anyways, I'm very happy in general with the work done, the engine really is very quiet and no longer leaking oil which is worth more than anything to me.
Going back to the lack of performance, it almost seems like it's not on all 8 while it makes its way up the revs on medium to heavy throttle and I'm sure I've seen something somewhere about getting the vanos slightly off and it having this effect, gonna go hunt Google to see what I can find lol
 
Getting it plugged into a faultmate would give you an idea of what the engine is up to while it's running if you can find one with a multi vehicle license

Hamster97, I've just finished watching an interesting series, (11 videos in all), on the BMW vanos units, it's from America, but I have learned how to do so many jobs from the vids in the past, not sure about how that technology relates to your RR, but I believe it could be a BMW engine, (I'm an old Rover V8 and Tdi man), there is a lot of Youtube vids available on the Vanos, some of what I saw sounded a lot like your problem, I have followed your thread from the start but can't remember if you have had the Vanos units re-sealed/serviced, and there is a mod kit to stop the rattle, (for BMW at least). If you have not already been down this particular road, it might be worth spending a couple of hours on line having a look, seems the Vanos is a notorious source of noise.
Now I've watched all the Vanos vids, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to help my mate re-seal his RR engine Vanos when the time comes, even got details to make up some special tools, a project, something for me to do in the workshop, good luck.

You are correct, my engine is the BMW M62TUB44 with vanos on the inlet cams.
I have had both vanos units resealed using Beisan seals although I can't recall seeing a rattle fix kit (but I have heard of it) . I saw different things for different engines on the Beisan site and to be honest, I got a bit lost and just ordered new seals.
I agree with you that my problem sounded identical to a video I watched which was cured by fitting new vanos seals, unfortunately, it wasn't the case on mine but as previously said, there's still a couple of things that still haven't been done and I will get there in the end but I don't know whether to start with the easiest first (oil pump) and then do the lifters if it's still tapping.

In my experience big ends don't tap ,they knock and if reved the dont quieten down they progressively get louder followed by a big bang and the con rod coming through the side of the block. Main bearing journals will rumble.
 
Little bit more information, it doesn't seem to tap while it's idling so I think that rules the oil pump/pressure out.
