Had a 300tdi Disco for a few years now. My wife got interested in one as well. Been to see one locally - Chassis looks OK, boot floor, sills, inner wings all OK. Nice smooth and quiet engine with mileage at about 100K. The sunroof doesn't leak. Am I missing something? What fuel consumption can I expect? Is there anything else I should be aware of? I am very tempted...

18 to 22MPG depend on condition and what V8 engine is fitted and how and where u drive it.

So that about it then, maybe slightly better if a manual gearbox and worse on shorter journeys in town,

NB: Figures quoted for rolling chassis
Quit sniffing glue discool;)

Is yours not similar then.
That is the mpg I'm getting same as when I took delivery 18 years ago, purchased for week end end use only and the odd trip abroad so is only done just over 45000miles so mpg has never changed.

My old 3.5 RR did 16mpg from day one up to the 110, 000 miles I had and never varied what ever.

I agree, it does look OK on the face of it, plus I've never had a "legendary" V8 before in a car and fancy the experience (I had two in the garage, but never got around to fitting them!!). I guess as long as it is looked after properly, fluids and filters changed regularly then it should be fairly long lived? What is typical life before a rebuild (obviously bearing in mind it depends upon whether it is mistreated or not!)

Disco1 , 50th defender, 2 x rr classics, 14-16 average. My dad had a 3.5efi auto rr, he got 15. The only one I got 16 from was the disco 1, it was the only manual r380 (but suspect the cam was a bit worn). Interestingly, I only lost around 1 mpg running a 4.6 in a rrc, suppose the torque kept me in higher gears more - 13/14.
Would always laugh at the blatent lies told on eBay ads, 40mpg equivalent on LPG, more economical than diesel, but if 18 is a starting point, you probably would match a TDI if you ran gas

OK, so it sounds like I should look at a gas kit if I'm going to keep it as an economical proposition. Any thoughts on the best kit to buy? Am I looking at about £500 for this?
