The fact that it was listed as a dipstick connector had me a bit confused, but as I have the other two fittings on my workbench and it's not them that has to be the one!
I'm not computer savvy enough to understand the "Virtual Machine" thing but a mate of mine who is a whiz with the magic box is coming for Thanksgiving dinner tonight so I will get him to help out...before he gets into the Tequila! :confused:
No worries Rich, if he needs a copy of win 7 for the VM then let me know. VirtualBox is really really simple to use.
I have several VM's running win 7 32bit and 64 bit.
I use one for testing any 'dodgy' code, another for older programs and another for auto stuff.
Microcat is great - it covers ALL LR vehicles - here is a sample page for fuel tank parts for a V6 Freelander Canadian model ... It is in a Window 7 32bit Virtual Machine running on Windows 8.1 64bit.
Well worth installing if you can get the 32bit VM up and running (or indeed, have 32bit windows on your system)

If you compare the fitting at the bottom of the oil dip stick and the "larger" fitting on the front cam cover (on the left when facing the engine), you will see there are the same.
 
The Saga Continues! I received my dipstick connector from Rimmers today, and of course....It doesn't bloody fit!
The fitting accepts an 8.2mm pipe and the breather pipe, which I also ordered a replacement of is 12.4mm.
This is the 4th fitting I have bought and I think I am giving up. I will use the new pipe (as the old one is a bit distorted and enters the fitting at an angle)
and will try sealing it into the old broken fitting (the red collar is gone) with some RTV sealant.
Luckily I was able to return the 3 fittings I bought out of the USA so financially I'm not out much, but man, it's been frustrating!

Update: I`ve just wrapped the end of the pipe with silicone tape and stuffed it into the broken fitting. Job Done!

Hi Rich

In that particular fitting, there is an extra plastic part for shipment purposes that needs to be removed as such (outlined in yellow), however your fix sounds much cheaper!

Incidentally, how's the V6 HG issue going?
Time is too short, so nothing new to report as I have done nothing but continuing to re-fill collant/distilled water mix. Thanks for asking, the moment I have more, I will definitely update.

The extra bit came out easily with a light pry with a big screwdriver. I'll install it on the weekend.
even with the silicone tape fix I have noticed the Hippo has lost it's acceleration issue so it will be nice to sort it properly.

This morning I finally replaced the fitting. True to form it fought me all the way and came out in pieces. I was able to get all the bits out without any falling
through the hole into the cam cover. That would have meant pulling off the intake plenum and cam cover so I took a lot of care using screwdrivers to get the locking ring out and a hook to pull out the remains. A little moly grease on the end and a few gentle taps with a socket on an extension popped it back into position. Made my day!

Update on the coolant loss. I actually put some head gasket sealant and the leak is gone (I was loosing around 250ml per 30 mins trip now.

What I actually did is to bypass the heating matrix and the oil cooler so that when I put the sealant I would have less issue.

I then drained the coolant, rinsed and filled with distilled water the use the product called Blue Devil poor and go. I ran this for a few days until the white smoke out the tail pipe went away, then drained and rinsed the coolant and put back coolant into it.

Roughly 4 weeks into it, no loss still, plenty of heat and no more coolant in the oil when doing an oil change.

Of note, I am running a Kaiser aluminium thermostat housing and associated pipes (made for a Rover 75 car) and I did not remove the thermostat in this process.
