I've been on the lookout for a replacement v8 disco 1. My last one (96 ES) cost me £850 a year ago....

Having looked over the past week, every disco with the same spec is around the £1k mark.

So have used V8 got popular all of a sudden?

Where are you looking? I've spent the day looking at 300tdi's and most are between 1800 and 2.5k, not great examples either. I know diesel has a premium but prices do seem to vary depending on where you are in the country.

mmm I am thinking Discos 1 and 2 will begin to hold their prices simply because there are not many alternatives. I needed a tow barge for a horse trailer, choice really was the D2 or Fourtrak (which are going up in price) guess L200s etc were also a possibility. Disco 3 and 4 wont appeal to many as they are just too complex and will be massively expensive to maintain as they get older - I think decent Discos 1/2 will at least hold their prices!!!

And the £3000 I paid for my x plate D2 was the cheapest I could find!!!

You can have mine for £1800 I'll even put a new MOT on it and I'm in Essex

I just paid £600 for a '96 (N) 3.9Efi V8 with 100 Ltr LPG. Was a none runner for all of about an hour and half! Anyway it was cheap as it was a none runner and the two fools had been fiddling for months trying to get it sorted without any luck. Anyway it was cheap and a none runner but it has already on it, 2" Lift Kit with new springs, QT Steering Guard, QT Diff Guards Sump Guard, Safari Snorkel, Rock Sliders, a half decent set of Khumo something or other tyres on Modular wheels. Plus is an ES leccy seats/windows/sunroof and the sunroof dont leak which amazed me! And to top it all off its got a Genuine 87,000 miles on it. As soon as I got it running I was happy with the sound of it as its dead quiet. Thats all the good things, there are a few bad points, rust on rear arches needs sorting, no airbox, the fuel lines had been cut before the filter and just coupled to some rubber hose so no filter currently, Gas tank has a small leak on it, and like I said it wasnt running. All in all a steal so keep looking mate as they are out there.

Mmmmm non runner you dont mention what got it running.has it got a ticket if not what it needs to get one.could end up costing a fortune.my mate bought a v8 cheap non runner, got it running then turned out it had head trouble. probably thats why it was disabled so he didnt notice head prob till a few miles down the road.

Taxed and MOT for 8 months, timing was about 2 teeth out on the the camshaft so theyd never have got it running properly,**** dizzy cap and **** rotor arm, wrong routing of leads, also no fuel getting to the plenum where they had done away with the fuel filter they had squashed the hose so tight with the jubilee clip that the actual plastic from the pump had been crushed causing a massive restriction in flow. Sorted that and the timing and it fired 1st time. I got lucky with buying from a fool. As for it costing more money in the future dont all Landys drain the wallet? Especially V8's but then at least its a V8!!

I guess if I broke the car there is probably a grand worth of Parts on it so I doubt im gonana lose out, plus I have a complete other V8 in spares so bits arent a problem. I did post another thread in the discovery section entitled "Bought a none runner"

Dropped on nicely.dont matter what you buy 2nd hand its gonna cost you.got a 96 terrano 10 months mot ,10 months tax the car cost me a discovery 2 front bumper.in 3 years of owning cost me less than £100 in maintenance.bought a 51 plate terrano last year cost me £1500 first 2 months. needless to say its gone 96 plate staying.

I bought a 95 terrano, read up they are prone to gearbox bearing problems, Thought id take a chance cos it was cheap and in vgc.... 200 mile and 1 week later the fecking gearbox bearing went :( not very good

they are also more prone to rust than land rovers but they wont admit it on the forum. they just keep slaggin off the land rovers.
