thats what i was thinking. if the starter wasnt working, i wouldnt get that noise at all would i?

Nope solenoid is engaging & it's trying, but not having any luck turning engine over.
Get a another battery or a jumpstart and see what happens.

If the battery was on charge all night and it's like that the next day - no prizes for guessing what the problem is.
