Dunno mate, sorry about the minor distraction...

Someone will be along in a bit that knows about k series spitting their coolant

Have you spoke to the garage to see if they will pay for the repairs? Your off your head being out of pocket yourself.. No doubt if you have overheated it twice the head is on its way to being goosed!

Are you familiar with the K series 1.8 engine?
Do you have a VCU?

changing the belts are not as easy as you think
by the time you have changed the gasket, rail, reset the liners, you will be on for a couple of grand.

disconnect the brown temp sensor plug.that should make the fans cut in.

or possibly turn the A/C on.

Have yu got a copy of Rave?

+1 on taking it back to the dealer, utter madness not to.
I have a K series and like it but they will break your heart, it is bad enough when they fail after a few months but for it to go the day after you bought it is not acceptable.
Replacing the head gasket, fluids belts, water pump, tensioner and oil rail if you decide to go that far will cost you around £300. If you count your own time as having a value then make that £500 - £600.

Make the call!

Read my thread and you will see how much a chunt they are. I'm only sticking with mine as I paid penny's for it with super low mileage. But it's slowly killing me. If you have the option, take it back and walk away.
If not then get all the parts first before you start. It's not a really hard job just takes time. My best bit of advice is take the under tray off and leave it of until you are sure it fine. My k series did exactly the same thing as yours. I cannot tell if it was a head gasket but other found faults meant the head was removed and now further issues have arisen. Like now I have leak between the head and block down the front of the engine. Meaning it will all have to come off again. Leaving me close to my tether! I sugget not bothering with mls gasket, that's what I've done and I should of just listened and gone for shorter life, more reliable not to leak now. But I thought I knew best an now I have a car that again I can't drive and a wife who is past the point of talking about it.

Mine did the same thing, water steaming out of the coolant tank, took the cap off and watched it pour out like a fountain in a fish pond. Guess what the problem was.....

Head gasket.

Take it back to the dealers, get them to fix it and go pick it up again in a week. You'd be UTTERLY MAD not to.

A weak coolant cap or badly bled cooling system will also give the same results.

Only peeps that don't fully understand a k-series engine will immediately shout hgf.

Like I said, I could not tell the reason mine boiled over, could of been the cap could of been the HG. Could of been small gremlins farting in the sump. Who cares if you have the option of taking it back then do so. I didn't so I'm doing the work my self, trust me it's a right ball ache. Unless you paid FA for it and think you have a billy bargain if you fix it then I'd let them either fix it or refund you

it could be the fans not working also is the water pump ok and is the thermostat ok, a lot blame the head gasket when it could be other things
