we have a freelander 2002 2.0tdi td4
it went in for a mot today ,failed on track rod end so the garage poped a new one on ,
picked it up drove back home only from town to me short distance ,
i went out in it tonite ,n the landys gutless when you rev it its slow on reving than pick ups like a slight delay ??
i opened the bonnet they replaced the NSF track rod ,buy the looks of it they went in from the bonnit to undo the track rod bolt ,
the end of air box theres a hole drawing in air ??IS THIS NORMAL
also thers a thin braded pipe hanging there with a perished end comming from the other side along the bulkhead it will go as far as the corner by the fuse box or is this were the ecu is ??
also behind of air box theres a thin pipe with a petrol filter hanging there going to nothing ??IS THIS JUST A BREATHER ,
im going to pop back to the garage just to see if the pipes hopefully a vacume pipe of some sort whats causing the problem ,
& not that they screamed the tits out of it n its now running on 3 cylinders ,

That all sounds a bit rough to me mate.

Start with the following checks for lack of power;

1) Blocked air filter
2) Restricted air inlet pipe/ducting
3) Air in fuel system
4) Blocked fuel filter
5) Turbo stuck
6) air Pipework after turbo/intercooler loose (boost pressure lost)
7) Brakes binding

After that, it starts to get expensive.

would anyone please have any diagrams photos of engine bay please just to check out were this pipe should be fixed ,also cant understand how theres a hole about the size of a pencel on the end of the air box drawing in air ???
 
Is the "pencil hole" on the bottom of the air box?

Could be a water drain hole

Sorry not got a freelander, so can't help with the photos.

the "petrol filter" is only a breather, don't panic, it should vent to atmosphere

add some pics of the other bits you're worried about and we'll try to put your mind at rest
 
gonna upload some photos later
took it back to the garage this morning & they tried to pull the material braded pipe & connect it to the other pipe with the small white petrol filter but it was about 3" too short ,& wen i said thats just a breather they got arsy & tried to get me to book it in this afternnon ??£££££
could anyone else ava look to see if they have a pencel hole were mine is please ,
im gonna get a service kit for it as well ,ive seen them on ebay but as mines a 2002 how do i know if mines early or late ,
 
Earthling:doh:. . . . . . .we dunt know wot you mean [end box wiff a pencill innit :D] we helped you wiff the plastic filter at the back lhs looking in engine bay [and yes its open vented ] one tube in the top. . . . .but we dont know wur the pencill case is :D. . . . . .and dont get yer doors wet
 
If you mean the hole at the passenger side end of the air box it's not used. There used to be a clip pushed in there that secured a hose or summat, can't remember exactly what.

I would suggest you take it to a garage that knows what the fook they are doing on a Hippo....

Both the 'petrol' filter and braided hose nearby should be open to air. Sounds like they did summat to yr car when they worked on it!

just trying to upload a photo now but in wk
found out what the pipe was for ,under the fuse box pass side theres a black cylinder what the brake servo pipes go into at the end towards the bulkhead theres a small inlet looks like a vacume or something ,pluged it in now the brake pedals not as hard ,& the landy goes alot better
now ive found another pipe hanging its at the front of the engine pass side ,
my cameras playing up :mad: so not in colour

The plastic chamber is the vacuum reservoir. The long pipe you have going across the top of the engine will be the one that supplies the boost control solenoid and should be connected to the place on the vacuum reservoir that you found with no pipe on.

So which pipe have been talking about that you've just connected? post a pic. Or are you saying that you have now connected the long pipe from accross the engine??

The short pipe at the front of the engine has been disconnected from the EGR solenoid under the inlet manifold

hi sorry the thin bradded pipe what i connected went from the drivers side at the bottom of the engine up along the bulk head to the plastic chamber vacum reserver NOW SORTED thats the one what was dangling were it looks like that the garage pulled off when doing the trackrod :rolleyes:
but in the photo ive found another thin bradded pipe at the front of engine connected to that thing inline with air intake the pipes about 9" long were does that go ???

The EGR solenoid is barely visible (best to get a mirror or small victorian chimney sweep to take a look). There's 2 pipes on the solenoid- the left as you look at (feel) it is the output for you disconnected short pipe - the right hand (nearest to end of solenoid) is the input pipe from a joiner piece near the vacuum reservoir (where your other one was disconnected) - This input pipe needs routing carefully to avoid it melting on the metal pipes/brackets!

I suspects the one you originally connected back, was the turbo boost solenoid (should of made a big difference).
