Hi
Im new to ur forum but so desperately need some help. Ive got a 1997 mondeo V6 with what we think is an airlock in the cooling system, so the heater doesnt work and it keeps boiling in the engine. Any ideas apart from setting fire to it! :)
Im a damsel in distress and need the car for work - help please!!

It's likely to be the thermostat. I had the same problem on my Escort GTi and I argued till I was blue in the face that it was the thermostat, but no they insisted on changing everything else. Eventually I blew the engine completely on the M1 one morning. AA man towed me to Calderford in Wakefield where they finally agreed with me that it was a sticking thermostat.

Glad it was a company car ;)

Thanks take 5, I think one of the faults on a v6 is the impeller in the waterpump that fails, so bearing that and thermostat in mind im going to have a look at them to see if thats the problem.

We once had a ford V6, same problem, turned out to be the water pump.

Regards WP.

The standard water pump impeller in the V6 is made of plastic, what hapens is the impeller comes loose from the drive shaft and causes the car to boil..

the replacement water pumps have a steel impeller to stop this hapening.

either way i recomend a v6 friendly garage ,, i hate working on them,

iuf i were you i would try removing the heater hose and putting a hose pipe down there remembering to remove the rad cap first and keep the water flowing till it comes out of the rad.
