I would try and come up with a solution to fix the pipe without putting gunk in the system - epoxy plus bandage maybe? I say this having done a post mortem on my old radiator - which had apparently been filled with all kinds of stuff - blocked the rad, and led to regular overheatsI've found the hole now on the back of the pipe and it feels pretty tiny. In fact it hardly leaks at all once the coolant is up to temperature ! I came to the same conclusion and have ordered some JB Waterweld which has got good reviews. Fingers crossed it does the trick as the pipes are really wedged in thereThe irony is the actual o-ring job was a lot simpler and quicker than I expected ......

Sorry didn’t explain very well. It is an epoxy especially for sealing metals, plastics etc where water is involved and is designed to cope with very high pressures and temperature. You just apply a little on the outside of the surface area where the leak is. Absolutely nothing going in the system ….. totally agree with you on that !
