Hi Guys. I'm Chester based and need urgent help. On Thursday 27-7-2016 my kit car has its VOSA test. It has the above engine. The car will not idle meaning it will fail the test on this and probably on emissions too. I'm not a car expert but have tried many parts off my friends kit to see if I have a faulty part. The car starts fine but on reaching approx temp 70 seems to overfuel. Then die.
We have changed stepper, water temp sender, air flow unit, tested plenum gasket, coil, plugs, leads, rotor arm etc etc.
Sadly I cannot with my limited knowledge keep playing as I only have a few days left. I cannot drive the car to anyone as it's not had its VOSA test so no registration. Can someone please help. The engine has only 5 miles on the clock. It's a brand new engine.
I'm happy to pay proper money for anyone who guarantees to have me with a idling engine and a chance of passing emissions.
I'm on email me on rodbromiley@me.com

The engine starts fine. It has lambas and cats. At approx 70temp. It starts to run rich then hunts. Then cuts off like a power cut

I have connected RoverGuage but sadly don't understand it. It shows no fault codes.

I need a home visit rather than a lot of guys trying to offer cyber help to a novice.i appreciate your input but my clock is ticking and I need a expert.

Thanks so much

Rod

Slow down fella! You can't expect folks to drop everything for you on post 1.

Can we have some more information please. I get it is a 3.9 V8, what injection system is it running - should I assume it is a 14 CUX hotwire system or have you put on megasquirt or similar? What tests have you run so far? What car is it in?
Depending on getting a bit more info and what my movements are, I may be able to pop over and have a gander but I can't guarantee I can solve your problems. Whereabouts in Chester are you roughly (don't post your address and you might want to remove your mobile number as well ;) )

theres a temp sensor for the efi ,not the gauge sender on front lhs of inlet manifold ,it gives similar if failed

Hi it's in a Westfield kit car. The engine is a new engine. It was supplied back in 2003. It has only 5 miles on the clock. I have a friend with the same car so tried his bits on mine to see if it was a part. It has a 14cux yes. I have. Changed air flow meter. Re sealed Plenum gasket. Changed water temp sender. Checked stepper motor. New spark plugs. New ignition leads. New Rotor Arm. Lambas been checked. I'm banging my head into a wall. I'm at CH2 4DD and on Rod

OK then, so coolant and/or fuel temp thermistors are good?

You say the problem happens when the engine hits 70 degrees, this sounds like there might be something going on with with the lambda sensors when the ecu is switching to lambda correction of the idle mixture so possibly lambda sensors are duff or there might be an ecu problem.

Without getting more information about what the engine is or isn't doing it will be hard to narrow down where your problem may be, at the end of the day I suspect it will be something simple, after all, the engine will start and run so all the fundamental stuff is there.

If you can give some more info I am sure the problem can be sorted. As I said before, I might be able to come and have a look but I can't guarantee a fix so over to you.

Kev, thanks, yes it starts fine. It does appear to be overfuelling. If you can come over I'm happy to sort something out. I'm near the zoo. I have had to cancel my iva car test sadly as it just won't pass with this issue

I bought a cable that connect to ECU and ran Rover Guage. It shows no " faults" but I don't get fuel mapping etc. I have recorded the screen of rover guage and can email it to you so you can view it Kev. Sadly it won't let me upload it here. Maybe as I use all Macintosh gear rather than windows.

Rod, that takes the time pressure off which is useful. On the basis there is now more time I would think I can take a look either one evening this week or maybe Saturday. I can bring a spare ecu for testing purposes and I'm sure I have a couple of lambda sensors somewhere. I also have a spare MAF but I think a dvm should be all that's needed.

One question though, do you have the road speed transducer and is it working?

Also, what is the base reading from your throttle potentiometer?

Here's Rover Guage on starting and also just before it cuts out. The cut out is instant like someone switched the ignition off. The car can then be restarted, a few minutes later it cuts again.
