Gen3's are only worth the cash is you do a lot of off road driving where the extra travel with new shocks to accommodate the extra travel and mods to the height sensors allows greater articulation.
For road use, they are a waste of money IMO.
Just curious. But have you drive Gen 3’s on the road? I haven’t either. But allowing softer springs at higher tide hieght and stiffer at lower rise height must make a difference.

I often lock my p38 in the motorway mode on rougher roads just to get the softer spring rate for comfort.

Take it back it's a Friday afternoon one. :D
Lol. But no it was fine.

This is my 3rd 4.6 p38 and have been in many others as well as other LR products.

I remember many years ago following my Uncle in his Tdi 110 touring Wales. He could often whip round a corner that would result in the p38 pushing wide and unable to change direction as quickly.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking p38’s. (I own one!) But they are far better at wafting than being thrown around.

Exactly my point, driven in a normal manner they are almost faultless. As said earlier if you wanted panic stations at speed on a twisty road you should have driven one of the early classics. They were bloody death traps.

Yeah have driven a few of them. 4 speed manual V8’s. Also D1’s without any ARB’s (not all of them had them). D1 has slightly stiffer spring rate. Personally quite like the handling of both. They might not grip as well as late models but arguably handle better.

Less give in the bush so something has to go.

I was in my local friendly Indy the other day having new tyres fitted and chewing the fat. The number of suspension issues because of the state of the roads was obscene. That and Volkswagons failing the new emissions regulations.

indeed , also don’t think it helps when low profile tyres are fitted

A loaded up Disco 1 with duff shocks is a bit of a rolly polly car.

As a p38 bod can anyone explain ace. No idea what it is. I think mine handles ok but it's easy to get in trouble with a few mods, a big v8 , and everything running right.

Active Corner Enhancement (ACE) is a reactive anti roll bar. It uses hydraulic rams. As the Vehcile starts to lean, it detects this and pushes the body level.

It is frankly superb. IMO D2’s lean less than a D3 or D4. Neither of which have ACE.

There are few vehicles with active anti roll devices. There might be more newer ones I don’t know about. But there was the D2, the Citroen Xantia Activa and the Lexus Soarer that I know about.

I don’t have any good D2 pics. But you can see the difference active anti rolls bars make.

hi

that’s interesting with how the systems compare , have DSC on my D3 , have also read about hydraulic ARB, think that’s on the RRS though

And this was fitted to all d2s or just top of the line? I guess it wasn't fitted because the l322 was already in the barrel why spend on a dead duck. As always these things need some pre testing to iron out major issues.

L322 had front and rear standard ARBs compared to the P38's single one at the front.
Active anti-roll bars didn't make a come back until the Range Rover Sport - which is why the familiar chorus of the Sport being the same as the Disco 3 with a different body shell isn't really true.

only thing i’ve found out with the differences of the sport and D3 is indeed that active ARB, suspension bushes are different , stiffer on the RRS

but i think generally they share running gear, engine believe this is up to 2012 when the RRS changed

think the RRS chassis is shorter than the D3, but not 100%

oh and a D3 is betterer than a RRS , time to hide ;):p:D

General waste of space and just something else to go wrong. Also gives idiots a false sense of security causing them to go beyond their and the vehicles actual capabilities.

I have had a couple of Disco 1s. I now have a P38. If i won the lottery i would not buy a modern Range rover. Does that answer your question. To many gadgets added to go wrong on modern cars for my liking.
If there'd been internet forums at the time I daresay plenty of people would have said the same with about the P38 - which I would have said gadget/tech wise was a bigger leap than a Sport is from the P38

There are a lot of ECU's in the P38, but very few gadgets, brakes, auto and EAS are effective stand alone unlike the L322 and of course the steering is a simple mechanical arrangement. The engine ECU is also stand alone apart from the sync code which can be eliminated with an unlocked ECU and the torque reduction request signal from the auto box.

I wouldn't buy a modern RR and if I was given one I'd get rid quick.
