So I think its a 300 tdi axle, I need to rebuild the hubs, just seals really and one CV joint, I know the CV will need to come out before I can order a new one, what about seals, are they the same across the board? Bearings should be the same and the seals on the CV housing as far as I know. From memory there are two different types of lock washer?

all the 300s are thin drive member is yours

Nope, rear axle is but front isn't, both came on a rolling 300 chassis.

This is probably going to be a ball ache but I'm sure most bits are the same.

I cant remember if the front is 10 spline or not, it does have a disco 1 diff in it though.

I will do, should be stripping it down this week hopefully, It might not even need bearings but I am assuming it will and probably worth the few quid while I am in there, I shall see whats what when I'm in there, it does need seals though, ep90 leaking right the way through from diff to drive member.

Oil is meant to reach the drive members on pre ‘93 axles. I’m sure JM will confirm dates/types of axle.

Not oil from the diff.
Yes, from the diff. The rubber hub cap keeps it in and needs replacing periodically - on older ‘qualifying’ axles only.
Not saying these are your axles, but worth bearing in mind until you identify them.

So the cv and wheel bearing are lubed with ep90? I remember people used to mod axles to do this, never thought it was standard.

After the bearings? Not that I can remember.
to start with all parts were lubed with oil, then they fitted an outer seal and all parts but bearings were lubed with oil then they stopped oil reaching the hub which is when drive member wear started

The plot thickens, hopefully going to start stripping it down tomorrow evening, Ill know for sure whats going on with it then. From memory I'm pretty sure there was two seals in there, it must be 5 or 6 years or more since ive been in there.

On my disco 300tdi I removed the seal in the end of the hub. I think from memory it sits in the back of the stub axle, this should allow Ep90 to lube the bearings and swivels (I think).

you can but its adviseable to replace the inner hub grease seal ftc4785 with rtc3511 oil seal

I've just googled the parts diagram and it's the seal in the back of the swivel ball I removed. It was my understanding oil then travels down past the shaft in the stub axle and into the bearings and swivels the seal on the back of the hub and the cap then hold it in. Seems to me like they tool a step back when they used one shot. Anyway ill stop filling jobber thread with rammel now lol

you wheel bearing hub seal as std isnt an oil seal

You’ll definitely need to establish which axle it is before ordering parts. I have an ’88 110 and the parts are different to the LA onwards vehicles.

Also check the swivel balls - mine were pitted and have therefore ordered new ones.

So I managed to pull the hub off, there is a seal on the back of the hub but no seal on the front, just the locking nuts for the bearing, the locking tabs are the ones with the inner tab and not the half moon type.
