Old tyres - well worn 235/60/16 Federal Couragia. Road biased tyres....fine on road but defeated by wet grass.

New tyres today - Insa Turbo Rangers. 225/70/16. Fit ok without spacers or lift, but are very close to the strut lower cup.... maybe 5-8mm clearance.

Changed the thermostat yesterday and had the wheel off. Noticed the new tyres have been rubbing on full lock.
Think I will need to get a set of spacers.

I'm leaning toward 225/75X16 Grabbers with a 50mm lift for my 2004 Facelift Hippo. :cool:.

Seeing all the 3-door Hippos makes me wish I had gone for one instead of my 5-door
They are pretty scarce over here though.

Currently thinking hard on the best options for my Hippo: as mine has the dealer-fit body kit and frankly the standard 16" triple sport with no-brand standard size tyres look decidedly... err.... how to put this politely... undernourished.

Given that all the period advertising pictures with this ghastly kit fitted used 17" triple sports, that's what I am looking for now - plus play be a set of chunkier tyres. Not sure how a non-standard tyre size will play with the insurance company though? :(

If I want to fill out the arches a bit more and bring the tyre outer edge a little more in line with the extended arches, will 17"s with a wider tyre do the trick, or will I need a set of the dreaded spacers?

I can't see the insurance company being too worried. If factory fit wheels are fitted, the tyres are legal and correctly rated for load and speed. I can't see a slightly different size making a difference. As long as it looks factory fit, that's good enough, for me anyway.

I suspect that they wouldn't insure wheels that aren't hub-centric. Far to risky imho. I'd not fit them to any vehicle of mine.
