The tyres on my 1997 P38a Range Rover will need replacing soon and I would like some advice please on what the best tyres/sizes are for my car that would fit a 16" rim. I am currently running 255/65 R16, obviously rim size needs to stay at R16 but open to suggestions on best tyre, width and profile.

It all depends on what you want from your tyres, I run Pirelli scorpions 255/60/r18s on mine and I can't fault them, I don't go off road though.

BFG AT2's are also the business..
 
For road use, Nexen Rodian take some beating, the only off roading I do is moving my caravan onto a pitch or climbing the field from my parking area.

255/65/16 or 255/60/18 are standard sizes for P38. Early models had 235 option on 7 or 7.5 J steel wheels.

235/70/16 were an option as well, not sure if that was for earlier models or lesser equipped??
That's what I wanted to fit. Both cheaper and better for digging in...

235/70/16 are the same rolling radius as 255/65/16 give or take a smidgen. But less grip and prone to sinking through mud.

But.... Isnt this a long standing debate about cutting into the base or sliding around on top of snow/mud to an extent?
The thinner having a smaller foot print on the road to reduce rolling resistance if sufficient enough... Questions, questions...

Not getting into that. But my ride on mower has wide tyres at the rear. I'll fit some pushbike tyres on it and let you know how much grip they have. :D:D
 
I did fancy some Yokohama G015's I just couldn't get four at the time. They have really good caractéristiques about them in comparison to the GG at3's.
 
Good point, green Laning is a delicate subject, limiting damage is a great concern. But on a specific track/course it's a different ball game would you say?;)
