Hi is there any way of turning the fuel pump up on my defender 2.5 Td or anything to make it faster thanks in advance

Don't, but do check all the other things are right, set the tappets, change fuel and air filters. Injector service, check pump timing. May squeeze a bit more power out of it.
 
And do u no y it would put black smoke out when the turbo comes in
Shouldn't really, but a puff of black smoke under hard acceleration is pretty common on old diesels. Wouldn't worry too much if it isn't too bad.
Get the injectors checked! ;) And serviced if needed.
 
What I would do with a TD is to make sure everything is as it should be, then determine if you need any more power. Injectors, valve clearances, clean air filter, and all the other general tuning jobs. Mine has the power to comfortably drive at a steady 60-65mph, and how much faster do you really need to go in an old Land Rover? A good TD should be perfectly adequate for most Land Rover type stuff. Of course, if it's knackered, it will be down on power and trying to increase the power by upping the fuelling will only hasten its demise.
