Just came across this item on Ebay.
Was thinking about purchasing this tuning chip for my 300Tdi EDC Discovery. They say that the item can be returned if the customer isn't happy with the performance.
Never heard of this manufacturer, I know that Tunit made chips for the same engine, but they were almost £400.
The price makes me think that the quality might not be all that great.

Any ideas?

For the price of that you could remove the CAT, EGR, centre exhaust silencer, clean out the intercooler, go to the pub and get merry & still be happy......
 
I can’t open the link as I am at work right now but I wouldn’t go spending much on any tuning box or chip for the 300tdi edc. There is a simple mod you can do for pennies to increase power. You only need to connect a 1Kohm resistor across two wires in the loom to the fuel pump which will trick the throttle box into thinking the pump is not delivering as much fuel as it is meant to and then the throttle box will increase its signal to the pump and the pump will then deliver more fuel and give you more power.

There have been a few boxes on eBay which have been found out to only have a resistor in them. I know there are also proper chips available but on cars this age I couldn’t justify spending a lot on something you can do with a resistor.

Some people have had problems with rough idle with the resistor mod and it seems 1K doesn’t suit every car so someone came up with this circuit which is adjustable, doesn’t have the rough idle problem and is automatically switched off when you start the car so you can wait till the engine is warmed up to activate it.

I did this mod to my BMW 318TDS which uses the same fuel pump and it worked really well.
 
Hmm I would want to see what's in the box first.

I had the tunit chip fitted made a big difarance but then at the time I was rebuilding the engine. Cost £250 for the chip and a lot of fooking about with solder.

Will this work with the 'flyby' throttle, as I am unable to do the normal fuel pump mod because of this??
 
Yes it’s for the fly by wire throttle, Bosch VP37 injection pump as fitted to 300TDi Auto, RR P38 with BMW engine, BMW 318, 325 & 525 td/tds, various rover and MG and some VW TDI’s.

Google “EVRY MOD”, there are massive threads on the VW and Rover forums about it

As its adjustable there is the temptation to adjust it for more and more power but I would suggest caution unless you fit an exhaust gas temperature probe as two high EGT can cause serious damage but the same goes for any tuning mods.
 
The cable/connector numbers could be different on the Land Rover from the ones in my link so a bit of detective work might be needed to get the right ones, you will either have to find them documented somewhere or work it out.

I didn’t know if my BMW was the same or not so I just tested for the right signal and ground

What you are looking for is an ac signal which will vary in voltage with the amount of fuel the pump is sending to the injectors (it is produced by a coil around the piston in the pump so the longer the piston travels the higher the voltage) and a good ground. There is also a dc voltage which comes from the throttle and varies with throttle position but you do not want this one.
 
I have already de-EGR'd, de-cated, fitted a K&N air filter, electric fan... Was just wanting a bit more power for pulling trailers and the caravan. It has 195.000 on the clock, hope a chip would't put the engine under too much strain.

I might try the resistor mod as IanFiTheDwarf suggested. I'm not looking mad power, just an extra 10-15 horses would make all the difference.

I emailed the seller of the chip and made enquires about the instalment, it doesn't involve any soldering or re-programing of the ECU.

This is what he replied:

"You plug one cable into the map sensor and then 2 wires attach to the injection pump loom near the multiplug a few cms from the pump. (Pin 6 green/pink and pin 7 black or red on some). There is no need to touch or reprogram the ecu and the unit is quick and easy to remove."
 
I read on the rover forum about applying a simple resistor circuit to the MAP or MAF sensors to trick the ecu into delivering more fuel, I think the gains were limited and mostly in the mid range as you were only moving further up the ecu’s map not extending the map any further. I think the box in your first post probably uses a combination of the MAP/MAF sensor adjustment and also altering the feedback from the pump like the circuit I posted above to get the best of both worlds. They say its digital so it probably uses a microcontroller to vary the amount of gain dependant on the engine rpm and hopefully the temperature as well to avoid any rough idle problems and damage to a cold engine.

I don’t think that’s a bad price compared to what some are asking for similar boxes but it will basically do the same as the circuit I posted above since anything other than an ecu chip swap or reprogram is just fiddling various signals to trick the ecu into delivering more fuel.

If my landy was an auto I would have done this mod straight away as I like that it can be switched off or adjusted on the go but since I have a manual with a mechanical pump I am waiting to do the adjustments until I have fitted a bigger intercooler.
 
on the vw forum they talk about putting a resistor from the "control sleave position sensor" to gnd to lower the voltage the ecu sees so it ups the amount of fuel sent to the injectors.

the increase in power reported is said to be amazing.

they call it the "evry fuel mod".

we just need to work out which wire we need to connect to as we have a differant connector. (i think its the red one but i could be wrong)
 
The guy that makes the box the OP posted is Roverron, albeit under a different company name( Energy Tuning as opposed to Synergy Tuning).

Used a few of his boxes before and found them to be fantastic value in comparison to the big names, £400+. Also found them to give a tremendous difference to power and MPG if you learn to use the power in the right way.

Having said that I had them on common rail engines (Astra CDTI and Focus TDCI)

Seriously got me thinking about trying this though

I don’t mind knocking it up for you when I get the chance if I have the parts, I should have most bits but I am not sure about the 500 ohm variable resistor and I doubt I will have a normally closed push switch but you should be able to get the switches from Maplin or eBay pretty easily.

I don’t think I will get the chance to look tomorrow as I am at my workshop welding my other discovery all day but I will let you know.

I had a plug in chip from alisport when i had an intercooler from them on my Auto EDC. Made a big difference to performance but it was like a james bond smokescreen out the back on kickdown. Also had problems with the turbo manifold a well getting very hot. Also pulled up stationary with the side exit exhaust you wouldnt hang around long with the windows down.

took it out in the end probably saved the engine

no chip in hardly any smoke on kickdown
 
Hi folks!
Just tried this on my 98 auto with EDC here in Sweden..
I put a 1KΩ pot on pins 6 and 7 on the socket at the pump. Red and green/pink on mine.
Turned it down to about 280Ω and the idle goes up to about 1100rpm. 250Ω and the engine stalls..
Out on test drive the car pulls like crazy compared to normal, also leaves a nice thick black line of smoke trail behind....
I will use the front fog light switch(fogs removed with the bumper..) to power a relay that closes the circuit whenever i want to play red arrows air show or just needs a bit of extra pull..

If you go down this road it might be a good idea to keep an eye on the temp of the engine...

Update...bought the chip posted by the OP, fitted it the other day, **** easy and it makes a HELL of a difference.

Although as mentioned previously you do get nice cloud of black smoke on kickdown but that's only under harsh acceleration under normal conditions the engine is definitely less stressed so hopefully using the extra power correctly will lead to an increase in mpg
