All back together earlier and **** wet through! Going up to the yard in morning to fit my lights and also sprayed grill and surrounds earlier. I ran out of fresh nylocs for the prop so loctited them. Hopefully I don’t have to whip back off too soon!
The pain with these land rovers is the sh1t parts. It drives me mad. So many suppliers but so little quality bits. I do use lr workshop but some original lr stuff is stupid cost so you go oem.
Here’s the problem I had earlier. New flange doesn’t fit on full spline with dust shield in place. Totally different profile to original. It resulted in no dust shield going on.

Well, I assumed I was sh1t at driving the defender as always eased the clutch to not get a rough change....
You can guess the rest. Drives nice and tight, handbrake is so much better now someone who’s not rushing has rebuilt it properly also. No humming and a vast improvement in how it drives.
Once again, I’d like to thank everyone for the help! Landyzone is so valuable to me! I really do appreciate it :)

Hang on, so what was the culprit, the handbrake?
Dead prop/uj mate - handbrake wasn’t good due to output shaft seal which got done at same time. I rebuilt handbrake, replaced seal and replaced both props. Much better. Then went for a lonnng walk

I'm pleased to hear it is running better. You can get these things running quite smoothly in my experience, with lots of new components. The trouble is, it doesn't seem to last long before it all needs doing again.

Thanks. It’s going to get to a point in next year or so where I’ve been over whole thing myself hopefully so know what’s been built/installed with what quality of parts and when. Should my work mileage increase again, I’ll still be looking to go to a 1.2 transfer but I can hold out and want to do get chassis cleaned up and put a new rear crossmember on soon.
Another problem with sh1tparts there - I’m finding it difficult to find a decent rear crossmember with the long legs. I’m not keen on a britpart one and the one I wanted (Dixon) has a 30 day turnaround as is custom build!
